  UMHS News - Stroke Symptoms
The study, published in the November issue of the Annals of Emergency Medicine by stroke specialists from the University of Michigan Health System and the University of Texas at Houston, concludes that recognition of the symptom differences could help women be evaluated and treated faster and more effectively.
Stroke is the leading cause of disability in American adults, and the third leading cause of death.
Statistically significant sex differences were found for four specific symptom categories: men were more likely to report the traditional symptoms of imbalance and paralysis of one side of their body, while women were more likely to report nontraditional symptoms of pain and changes in consciousness or disorientation.

In the lowercase, the stroke is usually drawn through the ascender, but when used as a phonetic symbol it may be preferred to draw it through the bowl.
The letter was used in the Serbo-Croatian language of Yugoslavia, and this practice is continued in the modern written languages of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia.
In Unicode, both the version with the stroke through the ascender and the version with the stroke through the bowl are considered glyph variants of U+0111.

NIH/NHLBI News Release--WHI Study Finds No Heart Disease Benefit, Increased Stroke Risk With Estrogen Alone
The estrogen-alone study was stopped at the end of February 2004 because the hormone increased the risk of stroke and did not reduce the risk of coronary heart disease, a key question of the trial.
It was halted in July 2002 after 5.6 years of followup because of an increased risk of breast cancer and because the increased risks of breast cancer, coronary heart disease, stroke, and blood clots outweighed the benefits of a reduced risk of hip fracture and colorectal cancer.
WHI was launched in 1991 and consists of a set of clinical trials to test the preventive effects of postmenopausal hormone therapy, diet modification, and calcium and vitamin D supplements on heart disease, fractures, breast and colorectal cancer, as well as an observational study, which is looking for predictors and biological markers for disease.

Health Care Information Blog » Blog Archive » Sleep Apnea Linked With Stroke
Stroke as already mentioned in my previous article is a condition, which results in either loss of speech or paralysis of the limbs and this just turns the life upside down.
A link between sleep apnea, strokes and heart attacks have been established in the early 1970s, and it has been mentioned that they often happen together, but that does not mean that there is a cause and effect relationship.
The researchers also mentioned that people having sleep apnea has a risk greater than four times of having a stroke even if the risk factors for stroke, which are high blood pressure, smoking, diabetes etc. are controlled.
