D6 is my other preferred generic system, and it's very easy to swing back and forth between it and fudge.
While inconvenient, this work s very well for the OTE system, where the characters have only a few broad skills, but are considered to be generally functional human beings otherwise, and thus, don't need to worry about things like a driving skill to get to work, or an athletics skill to shoot some hoops.
West End Games replaces their masterbook system with a D6 system that was flexible and easy to use, and put it to use with such games as Star Wars, Indianda Jones, and (in variant form) Hercules & Xena.

The system is a skill-based (a variant of the GDW house system), using d10 (1st edition) or d20 (2nd edition).
It is a dice pool system rolling d6's where 3-6 is a success (special dice are provided with red and blue faces for this) plus a special "wild die".
The system is skill-based, based on rolling under your stat or skill on 1d10 (where 10 is a botch and 1 is a critical success).

D6 Space, in my opinion, is a great way to re-launch the company being as that, previously, their biggest game was also set in space.
D6 is "versatile" - meaning converting it to use for various settings was an intuitive piece of cake.
D6 is "simple" - meaning that it´s intuitive enough that you could master it in a few sessions and improvising rules on the fly, that were consistent with the spirit of the rest of the rules set, was not a headache.

WEG is rereleasing their d6 system made famous (infamous?) when they had the Star Wars RPG license.
In D20 system the Stat (Ab Socre) counts for relatively little compared to the skill (this is best IMO as it makes the skill worth spending points on andyou can be good at something without having to have a good 'stat' for it).
I suppose the ideal system would allow you the option, letting the GM choose whether you spend your character points freely as they are gained, or that XP must be spent in lumps as you gain levels, with some or all of your spend being dictated by a class.

Tell me about WEG's d6 system... - RPGnet Forums
The WEG d6 system is based on rolling a bunch of dice, summing them up, and hope you get more than the difficulty of the action.
D6 Prime (I think that's the name of it) is a more simple version WEG came up with for their Herc/Xena game, after discovering that RPGers can't do simple addition.
D6 is good for fast, action-heavy, not-terribly-serious games, where realism isn't much of a priority.

However, as with the Torg/Masterbook system, this is a system that could be abused.
Instead of using the standard real cash system, this system is very similar to the wealth system in d20 Modern - a dice code represented the characters wealth, and a difficulty for each item is given representing how hard it is to obtain.

D6 System offer two means of handling damage; the one to be used in the campaign is chosen by the GM.
D6 System uses abstract wealth, similar to the way that d20 Modern does, though there is a simple method for converting to hard cash, should the GM prefer to run it that way,
Combined with the unique magic system where a hero actually creates her own spells, this makes for a winning combination that is an excellent game system for anyone seeking a break from the d20 System standard that permeates the market nowdays.

There are a few options, but one that more advanced D6 System groups could try is the bargaining option, where the player and gamemaster try to figure out what works best for the scene, coming up with rule mechanics that feel okay for that situation.
The D6 System is one of the only games that a new player can be taught everything she needs to start playing in five minutes or less -- including character creation.
One of the strengths of the D6 System that's rare among other games is the ability to modify a roll after the fact, using Character Points; it makes the game more heroic, and leaves the players with lots of options.

My big problem is that there are specific bits to the d6 system which aren't found in the other books - what I'd like is a for-sale PDF or for-sale GMs guide - 32 pages'd to it, which, for another $15, gives you all the "unique" rules in the set.
IMHO i think the d6 rules are one of the best systems there is. The best points are fast gameplay and the skill system is second to none.
d6 Star Wars was fun, but it was a nightmare when high skills (and thus, the bucket o' dice) became an issue.

Players like the system better because their pc's actually improve at a steady rate (unlike in d6 where more powerful characters took forever to improve even a pip) and the improvement is noticable.

The D6 System is a generic, universal role playing engine published by West End Games in 1996 and later turned into the WEG in-house system.
While the chief aim of the System is to provide a basic set of customizable rules around which players can develop their own gaming universe, the D6 has also shown great potential as an alternate engine for pre-existing games - so much so that WEG presented some conversion rules for some of its MasterBook line.
We plan to add a section of generic add-ons for D6 System games, and are scanning our RPG collection for other game settings that might benefit from a Total System Transplant (C).
