Truxtun was laid down on 3 December 1919 and launched on 28 September 1920 from William Cramp and Sons; sponsored by Miss Isabelle Truxtun Brumby; and commissioned at the Philadelphia Navy Yard on 16 February 1921, Lieutenant Commander Melville S. Brown in command.
On 22 June 1922, Truxtun departed Newport and proceeded, via the Mediterranean, the Suez Canal, and the Indian Ocean, to the Far East which she reached in mid-August.
Soon after the outbreak of war in September, Truxtun began enforcing the provisions of President Franklin D. Roosevelt's proclamation of American neutrality by Neutrality patrols and escort duty off the Atlantic coast, in the Gulf of Mexico, and in the Caribbean.

The second Truxtun (Torpedo Boat Destroyer No. 14) was laid down on 13 November 1899 at Sparrows Point, Md., by the Maryland Steel Co.; launched on 15 August 1901; sponsored by Miss Isabelle Truxtun; and commissioned on 11 September 1902, Lt. Archibald H. Davis in command.
Upon commissioning, Truxtun was assigned to the 2d Torpedo Flotilla, and her commanding officer was appointed commander of the flotilla.
Truxtun remained in the Pacific until the summer of 1917.

DDG 103 Truxtun honors Commodore Thomas Truxtun (1755-1822) who embarked upon a seafaring career at age 12.
He was assigned command of the Constellation, one of the new frigates, and he put to sea immediately to prosecute the undeclared naval war with revolutionary France.
Truxtun retired from the Navy as a Commodore and has had three previous ships carry his name: DD 14, DD 229 and CGN-35.

After her delayed arrival, Villalobos remained at Changsha for the next four months until relieved by Palos on 28 February.
Proceeding downriver, Villalobos arrived at Hankow on 2 March, joining Isabel (PY10)—flagship, Commander, Yangtzee Patrol, Rear Admiral H. Hough, Truxtun (DD-229), and Pope (DD-225).
Unfortunately, the serene conditions prevailing in that area did not last long, for Chinese Nationalist forces swarmed into Nanking on 24 March and subjected American and British commercial installations to heavy attacks.

USAAC B-18 (Douglas "Bolo" medium bomber), however, witnesses the shot that Orion fires over Arauca's bow (in the attempt to force the latter to heave-to) splashing inside American territorial waters off Hialeah, Florida.

After an hour's fight, Constellation battered the French warship L’Insurgente into submission in one of the most illustrious battles of the Quasi-War with France.  Truxtun retired from the Navy as a commodore and has had three previous ships carry his name: DD 14, DD 229 and CGN-35.
He was soon given command of the schooner Enterprise.
  In June 1801, he sailed Enterprise from Baltimore to serve with the Mediterranean Squadron and captured a 14-gun Tripolitan cruiser and her 80-man crew during the Barbary Wars.  Sterett continued his Navy career until he resigned his commission in 1805.  Three previous ships have carried this name: DD 27, DD 407 and CG 31.

Stoddard: WWII PO; Rating: GM Joined the Navy in 1941, served as gunner on the Stoddard and fought in many of the Pacific's infamous battles.

USS Sterett is named in honor of Andrew Sterett (1760-1807), appointed lieutenant in the United States Navy in 1798 and assigned to Constellation as Third Lieutenant.
Though this is wonderful news, one has to wonder about USS England.

Family story was that he served on three ships that were sunk during Second World war.
