Robinson, with Waller, Saufley (DD-465), Philip, and Renshaw (DD-499) was assigned to the newly formed Destroyer Division 301 of Destroyer Squadron 30 at San Diego.

Robinson departed Norfolk again on 9 June 1958 on a midshipmen training cruise to La Coruna [sic; La Corona], Spain; Gotenbourg [sic; Gotenborg], Sweden; and Hamburg, Germany, before debarking the midshipmen at Annapolis on 4 and 5 August.
Robinson decommissioned at Norfolk in June 1964 and was berthed there with the Atlantic Reserve Fleet until struck from the navy list on 1 December 1974.

USS Robinson, a 2050-ton Fletcher class destroyer, was built at Seattle, Washington.
Robinson was present during the Battle of Surigao Strait on the night of 24-25 October, firing torpedoes at the Japanese fleet during what would be the World's last battleship-to-battleship action.
Robinson remained active in the Philippines area during the rest of 1944 and the first part of 1945, taking part in amphibious operations at Mindoro in December 1944, Lingayen Gulf in January 1945, and Mindanao and Basilan in March and April.

The “swim” by Lieutenant Kinder [“Encore,” May 2004] was witnessed by myself and a number of the crew of the USS Robinson (DD-562), upon which the incident occurred.
Robinson was directed to be the flagship (under Captain Campbell, commodore) for mine-sweeping operations in the South China Sea in September 1945 after the end of hostilities.
As a matter of record, USS Dewey (DLG-14), referred to as the ship upon which the swim incident occurred, was not placed in service until her commissioning on Dec. 7, 1959.

You should also know that our ship, destroyer DD 562, was the second U.S. Navy ship to be named USS Robinson.
That was before the Navy decided to shorten the class name to just ‘destroyer’ to encourage their crews to take on all manner of enemy targets: air-born, land-based and sea-born; not just submarines and torpedo boats.
But this is the explanation for the "little" in the oft-used "Little Robby", and the belief that he spent his days on the mast, sometimes perched atop the surface search antenna, sometimes pacing back and forth along the signal yard, always keeping a weather eye out for incoming harm.
