We are seeking information on the USS Watts and her crews.
I was stationed on the U.S.S. Watts (DD-567) from September 1952 until June 1956.
However, because I was in the process of cross-training into another rate, and that rate didn't exist at a surface division reserve unit, I had to finish up my thirty two carrier with the Air Force to qualify for retirement.

The Watts was my mother, father, friend, doctor and teacher for almost four years.
Those were the most impressionable years of my life and I loved every minute I spent on that boat, and to this day I miss sailing out of Norfolk and Long Beach harbors.
I served on the Watts from 52 to 54, what ship and a great crew.

The fleet subs were really great. The only thing that bothered me is when running with the snorkel and a wave would hit it and the diesels would pull a suction.I was only on subs for a very short time,as a seaman deuce, but I washed out because of my eyes, and was transferred to the surface fleet.
Ended up a Chief BoatswainsMate before they commissioned me.Ah yes,the fates of men.On the Watts DD-567 our skipper was CDR Holden who was a submariner all through WWII.A truly great Captain.
I'm new to CAUSS and, having been off the boats since 1965, it's good to relearn that special language, feel again that special excitement of being a submariner and sailing with crew members who manage to make the truly extraordinatry look commonplace.
