Dashiell (DD-659) was launched 6 February 1943 by Federal Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co, Kearny, N.J.; sponsored by Mrs.
Dashiell arrived at Pearl Harbor 24 July 1943 to join the fast carrier task forces for the raids on Marcus Island of 31 August to 1 September, Tarawa, 18-20 September; and Wake Island, 5-6 October.
Dashiell patrolled and screened transports during the landings there on 18 and 19 September and the reinforcement landings of 1 October.

USS Ringgold (DD-500) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Destroyers Ringgold and Dashiell (DD-659) were scheduled for an early entrance into the lagoon 20 November.
Minesweepers Pursuit (AM-108) and Requisite (AM-109), under cover of a smoke screen, swept a channel from the transport area into the lagoon during the bombardment, and they used their own guns to bark replies to Japanese shore batteries.
What most helped these Marines throughout that gruesome day was the presence of destroyers Ringgold and Dashiell, relieved by Frazier (DD-607) and Anderson (DD-411).

This is a list of destroyers of the United States Navy, sorted by hull number.
It includes all of the series DD, DL, DDG, DLG, DLGN.
CG-47 Ticonderoga and CG-48 Yorktown were approved as destroyers (DDG-47 and DDG-48) and redesignated cruisers while under construction; it is uncertain whether CG-49 Vincennes and CG-50 Valley Forge were ever authorized as destroyers by the United States Congress (though the fact that the DDG sequence resumes with DDG-51 Arleigh Burke argues that they were).
