Dennis J. Buckley sailed from Norfolk 7 November 1945 for occupation duty in the Western Pacific, arriving at Tokyo Bay 22 December.
Dennis J. Buckley departed New York 1 March 1949 for a brief period of operations on the west coast, returning to the Canal Zone 10 May for exercises in Caribbean waters.
Local operations engaged Dennis J. Buckley until 23 August 1958 when she again sailed for the Far East where she joined TF 72 to resupply Nationalist Chinese holding the Quemoy Islands against the threat of Communist seizure.

Fireman First Class Buckley was posthumously awarded the Silver Star for displaying exceptional courage in attempting to board and salvage a blockade runner which had been intercepted by his ship Eberle (DD-430) on 10 March 1943.
The name Dennis J. Buckley was assigned to DE-553 but her construction was canceled 10 June 1944 prior to launching.
Buckley until 23 August 1958 when she again sailed for the Far East where she joined TF 72 to resupply Nationalist Chinese holding the Quemoy Islands against the threat of Communist seizure.

DENNIS J. BUCKLEY was given a brief assignment in the II Corps Tactical Zone area of - the Republic of Vietnam for Naval Gunfire Support duties, but did not fire her guns.
DENNIS J. BUCKLEY was detached on 14 December for recovery of a USAF BUMPY ACTION Drone.
BUCKLEY was underway in a dense fog on 10 January, beginning a series of General Quarters and Damage Control Drills enroute to anti-aircraft firing practice.

It was a great time in our lives while stationed on the Buckley and like so many things in our lives, we never knew it at the time but wish we could go back if only for a little while.
BUCKLEY enlisted in the United States Navy at Springfield, Massachusetts, on September 30, 1940, and served continuous service in World War II.
BUCKLEY, as a member of a boarding party attempting to salvage the vessel, displayed exceptional courage in the face of grave danger from threatening flames and the powerful explosions of demolition charges.

We are seeking information on the USS Dennis J. Buckley and her crews.
The two destroyers named above along with the aircraft carrier Coral Sea and the destroyers USS Hawkins (DD-873) and Dennis J Buckley (DDR-808) took part in (March of 1951) a SAR in the north Atlantic re a SAC USAF C-124 Globemaster that went down with 53 SAC personnel.
The crews of the Benner and Fox recovered the majority of the debris from the crash.

Relieving Dennis J. Buckley (DD-808) as a unit of that force on the 22d of the month, Willard Keith spent the next six months in the "Med," making operational visits to such ports as Gibraltar; Naples and Trieste, Italy; Augusta Bay, Sicily; Istanbul, Turkey; Leros, Greece; and Suda Bay, Crete.
Operating with the hunter/killer group for the initial part of her time in the Far East, the destroyer served with part of the United Nations Blockading and Escort Group.
In company with James C. Owens (DD -776), Willard Keith performed plane guard services for two weeks with the Australian aircraft carrier, HMAS Sydney, as that ship conducted flight operations.
