  USS Ingersoll (DD-990) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
USS Ingersoll (DD-990), a Spruance-class destroyer, was the second U.S. Navy ship to be named USS Ingersoll; in this case, in honor of Admiral Royal E. Ingersoll (1883–1976), who served as CINC, Atlantic Fleet during most of World War II.
Ingersoll was laid down on 5 December 1977 by Ingalls Shipbuilding, Pascagoula, Miss.
Ingersoll was one of the first US Navy ships to receive the Armored Box Launcher (ABL) version of the Tomahawk cruise missile system in 1985.

DD-652 was named for Rear Admiral Royal R. Ingersoll (1847–1931)—and for his grandson, Lieutenant Royal R. Ingersoll, II (1913–1942) who had died in the Battle of Midway, just weeks before the ship's christening.
The first Ingersoll, (DD-652), was a Fletcher-class destroyer, launched in 1942 and struck in 1970.
The second Ingersoll, (DD-990), was a Spruance-class destroyer, launched in 1979 and struck in 1998.

DD 986 Harry W. Hill is the only ship of the class not to receive either the ABL or the Mk.
Having never seen the propellers of a Spruance Class DD I can not comment on their accuracy but they look okay to me. After market ones are available.
The other hull numbers given, DD 980, 981, and 983 can only be used if you choose to leave the ABL off and depict the ship before the VLS was installed.

In the early 1990's the ASROC launchers where removed from most all of the class as was the Tomahawks from the ABL even though the ABL's remained on the ships.
The following ships are the ones that received the ABL's DD 974 Comte De Grasse DD 976 Merrill DD 979 Conolly DD 983 John Rodgers DD 984 Leftwich DD 989 Deyo DD 990 Ingersoll DD 986 Harry W. Hill is the only ship of the class not to receive either the ABL or the Mk.

DD 963 Spruance class destroyers were developed to perform anti-submarine warfare (ASW) in support of the US Navy's aircraft carrier strike groups.
After nearly 30 years of honorable service to the fleet, USS Spruance (DD 963) was decommissioned during a ceremony at Naval Station Mayport March 23, 2005.
The last Spruance-class destroyer in service with the US Navy, USS Cushing (DD 985), was decommissioned in San Diego on 21 September 2005.

He is one of about 100 Ingersoll Sailors who selected follow-on assignments in Pearl Harbor.

Operations Specialist 3rd Class Douglas Price said the reason he helped purchase and distribute the bears was because, "I just wanted to give something back, because I've been so fortunate." Ingersoll crew members have participated in many civic projects during their deployment.
