Krush pays respects to "old-skool" rap, some disco-dancin' fluff, and scratches through electro sub-groups from a to z.
It’s not frenetic like you might expect-- Krush is restrained throughout the record, preferring delicate piano themes and saxes to turntable acrobatics.
You’d expect Krush wouldn’t have time enough on the disc to lay out everything he has, but his restraint, while often initially dead-on, runs long in the tooth.

DJ collections are always a tricky proposition, because they either end up as bafflingly great failures or classics.
Regardless, a DJ would hardly be asked to produce an album if their dossier weren't in some way respectable, so some amount of excellence is expected.
Whether or not to assail DJ Krush for a release that's more ethereal than solid is up to you, but at the same time it would be a shame to disregard "Zen" completely.
