Erlend Øye: DJ Kicks: Pitchfork Review For these moments alone, the mix is perfectly enjoyable, but where Øye distinguishes himself is on two back-to-back tracks near the end of DJ Kicks, in which he explosively pits the familiar against the obscure. Those two songs seem to encapsulate Øye's intentions with his DJ Kicks album. DJ Cam - DJ Kicks Like countrymen the Mighty Bop and la Funk Mob, Cam is stylistically closest to Mo'Wax artists such as DJ Shadow and DJ Krush; minimalist, downbeat instrumental hip-hop built from obscure samples and stomp-box turntable accompaniment, bent and twisted into new, artfully arranged compositions.
