DK Bongos are drum-like controllers for the Nintendo GameCube game series Donkey Konga, Donkey Konga 2, Donkey Konga 3, Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat, and until recently the upcoming game DK Bongo Blast (now known as DK Kongo Blast).
Tarukonga is a Japanese bongo drum, or a Japanese term for a set of bongo drums.
In Donkey Konga and Donkey Konga 2, the DK Bongos detect left and right hits, the hitting of both sides simultaneously, and clapping.

For anyone unfamiliar with the peripheral, the DK Bongos are two connected drums that can sense being hit and can detect clapping (it should be noted that one can play Jungle Beat with a normal controller, but it’s not nearly as fun).
The faster you tap the bongo, the steeper DK’s descent.
Clapping, hitting the bongos, and taking in all the on screen action while trying to string combos and increase your beat total is engaging in a way sidescrollers simply haven’t been in recent years.

Overall, the DK Bongo peripheral is a fantastic piece of hardware and is not needed to play the game, BUT, I highly recommend it for maximum play quality and maximum fun (or any for that matter).
The DK Bongos are a high quality peripheral that will make the game much more enjoyable.

DK Bongo Blast (also known as Donkey Kong Taru Jet Race in Japan, with "taru" being the Japanese word for barrel) is an upcoming racing game for the Wii, announced on May 9, 2006 at the E³ convention for the Nintendo GameCube.
Gameplay was originally meant to be with the DK Bongos, however since the game has supposedly moved to the Wii, it is unknown if it will utilize the Bongos or if there will be a new control scheme.
