DK can jump, sure, but the key to reaching the exit at the top of each level rests with your ability to grab onto, spin around on, and hurl DK off the many pegs, peg boards, and peglike switches that are situated between the floor and the ceiling.
DK and the other characters are drawn in a cartoonlike style, as opposed to the plasticky prerendered style made popular in the Donkey Kong Country games.

Donkey Kong Land - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In this portable follow-up to the Super Nintendo game Donkey Kong Country, a bitter Cranky Kong, jealous of all the success Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong have had from DKC, states that the only reason their first adventure was such a big hit was because of all the fanciful graphics and sound.
Returning characters, besides DK, Diddy, and K. Rool, included Rambi the Rhino and Experesso the Ostrich.
DKC alumni Cranky Kong, Funky Kong, and Candy Kong did not make an appearance, although Cranky was mentioned in the off-screen storyline, and it is suspected Funky built the teleportation device the characters must have been using, while Candy possibly programmed the K-O-N-G letters that would save game progress.

Review - DK: King Of Swing // Game Boy Advance /// Eurogamer
DK: King Of Swing crept out into the European market last Friday ahead of anywhere else in the world, so we won't blame you for knowing nothing about it.
The idea is essentially to swing DK from the bottom of the level right to the top via a series of wooden pegs while avoiding various hazards along the way, using the left and right shoulder buttons as DK's grabbing hands.
You can, however, charge up DK by holding down L+R for a second or so and bowl into them, but although that's an initially solid attack you'll soon have to deal with enemies that can only be killed by piling into their weaker side, and so on.

These are the unique controls of the game; everything else involves some sort of “swinging” (which should actually be called rotating since DK is merely rotating around a peg or object with either his left or right hand).
