The Tirpitz, second and last battleship of the Bismarck class, was the largest warship built in Germany.
At 1800, the Tirpitz leaves Trondheim under the command of Admiral Otto Schniewind and sails North, together with the heavy cruiser Admiral Hipper, the destroyers Friedrich Ihn, Hans Lody, Karl Galster, Theodor Riedel and the torpedo boats T-7 and T-15.
Tirpitz, Scharnhorst, and the destroyers Z-27, Z-29, Z-30, Z-31, Z-33, Erich Steinbrinck, Karl Galster, Hans Lody and Theodor Riedel, leave Altafjord under the command of Admiral Kummetz, to attack the allied installations on the island of Spitzbergen.

DKM (Deutsche Kriegs Marine) Tirpitz was a sister ship to the German battleship Bismarck named for Admiral Alfred von Tirpitz.
As a result of the Commando raid on Vaagso Tirpitz was sent to spent most of World War II in Norwegian fjords, offering a serious threat to Allied conveys to Russia and tying down Royal Navy resources but not venturing forth.
Repaired, she was finally sunk in Tromsø fjord on November 11, 1944 by Avro Lancasters of RAF 617 and 9 Squadrons equipped with the Barnes Wallis tallboy bombs.

''Tirpitz'' was finally sunk immediately to the west of Tromsø, in the bay of Håkøybotn, on 12_November 1944 by Avro_Lancasters of RAF 617 and 9 Squadrons equipped with Barnes Wallis' 5 tonne Tallboy bombs on their third attempt.

After an initial review of the DKM Tirpitz kit I purchased, the first thing I noticed is the size of this ship.
The funnel cap is generally the correct shape on the DKM Tirpitz kit.
