		You can actuate four valves per cylinder (or three, like Mercedes-Benz) with one camshaft by using rocker arms to open one set or both, depends on how you want to do it.
		As for DOHC, again, there is an advantage in weight, at an extra cost, both financially and in complexity.
		Remember, Roger Penske's car won the Indy 500 a few years ago with a pushrod engine, everybody else had DOHC.

		10-12-2004, 02:32 PM The dohc was prone to head gaskets blowing, I have driven cars with both and the dohc had a much torquier feel to it (but that could also have been that the dohc'ed Impreza I had was a coupe while the sohc'ed is a sedan.).
		The advantages of the DOHC was that it would have been a better engine to turbo if it was running a MAP system...
		So in conclusion, the census is that the dohc is a more powerful setup (potentially) with turbo than the sohc, and the sohc is the more fuel economic and safe version to go with.

		And DOHC does allow more tunability, but 90% of the time, if you change one cam, you'll have to change the other, so your back where you'd be w/ SOHC anyway.

		You can tune a DOHC engine to give more torque at lower RPM and you can have a 4-valve design with a SOHC.
		The some of the advantages of DOHC over SOHC are: More flexibility in designing the combustion chamber, because you have more flexibility to change the valve angles and spacing in the design and to have the valves directly actuated by the cams.
		DOHC and >multivalve heads will allow more horsepower from a >given engine displacement, but you end up with a peaky >engine that doesn't like to run slow.

		I was talking to someone on the street who said they had a dohc motor but it looked just like my single cam neon.
		I was sure he had a dohc motor cause his was an SXT.
		For example, a Pushrod actuated SB Chevy has 2 valves per cylinder, for 16 total, but it only has one cam (albeit it is not overhead, but you get the idea).

		the sohc's ignition is run off a distributor with the crank sensor inside the distributor, the dohc is run off a coil pack with a crank or cam sensor either off the rear head or on the block (i think it changes with the model year).
		The mani's are different from the DOHC to the SOHC but the downpipes and cat are the same between the 2.
