 DX encoding
DX coding is the name of a system for coding of 135 photographic film catridges so that the camera can automatically determine the film speed, number of exposures and exposure tolerance (latitude).
This Camera Auto Sensing Code is implemented in form of 12 fields on the cartridge surface that are either conductive or non-conductive (painted).
For sensing of film speed, 6 contacts are sufficient.

 THE INTERACTIVE FLY
Dx is required and sufficient to activate the expression of gene targets of the canonical Su(H)-dependent N signaling pathway.
Dx extends the half-life of N, although it is not clear whether this is due to the prolonged half-life of the vesicles or to stabilization of the N protein itself inside them.
Although Dx overexpression results in the accumulation of N in the late-endosome, the results suggest that this triggers a signaling event that is distinct from canonical N signaling, rather than merely upregulating signaling by increasing the availability of N. Indeed, the consequence of overexpressing full-length N is very different from that of overexpressing Dx.

DX encoding - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
DX (Digital indeX) is a standard for marking 135 and APS photographic film cartridges.
The DX Camera Auto-Sensing Code takes the form of a grid of contact points on the side of the cartridge surface that are either conductive or non-conductive.
The full DX geometrical and electrical standard is set by ANSI and I3A.

InterOperability Laboratory: Services: Testing: Gigabit Ethernet: Knowledge Base
One of the motivations behind the use of 8B/10B encoding lies with the ability to control the characteristics of the code words such as the number of ones and zeros and the consecutive number of ones or zeros.
Another motivation behind the use of 8B/10B encoding is the ability to use special code words which would be impossible if no encoding was performed.
The 8B/10B encoding scheme was designed to provide a high transition density which makes synchronization of the incoming bit stream easier.

Let $\rho$ denote the standard Gaussian density on $\mathbb{R}^{d},$ namely, \[ \rho\left(x\right) =\left(2\pi\right) ^{-d/2}e^{-x^{2}/2}\,dx, \] where here and throughout the paper, $x^{2}=x_{1}^{2}+\cdots+x_{d}^{2}.$ We will then consider the associated Gaussian measure $\rho\left(x\right) \,dx.$ We will let $L^{p}(\mathbb{R}^{d},\rho)$ stand for $L^{p}% (\mathbb{R}^{d},\rho\left(x\right) \,dx).$ Note that $\rho\left(x\right) $ has an entire analytic continuation to $\mathbb{C}^{d}$.
Formula (\ref{sdef2}) expresses the Segal-Bargmann transform as \[ Sf\left(z\right) =e^{-z^{2}/2}\int_{\mathbb{R}^{d}}e^{z\cdot x}f\left(x\right) \rho\left(x\right) \,dx.

Most cameras have DX encoding, which reads and sets the film speed automatically.
If you use a flash that requires manual settings, don't forget to set the matching film speed on that as well, so that your flash will know the correct amount of light to send out.

126 Instamatic film in the Frugal Photographer catalog
Many factors contributed to the decline of the Instamatic camera, primarily the dramatic fall in price and increase in sophistication of Japanese 35mm "point and shoot" cameras with high-quality zoom lenses and autofocus systems.
Motorized film advance and rewind, DX speed encoding, and sophisticated exposure control made the 126 Instamatic (and 110 Pocket Instamatic) cartridges superfluous.
Kodak stopped production of the film at the end 1999, and most other film manufacturers discontinued it at about the same time.
