As the name implies, the basic admission requirement for DXCC membership is that one has to provide proof of two-way contacts with at least 100 countries.
Fortunately, we have been in regular communication with the DXCC administrators over the years, and when the first countries to participate in offshore checking were selected, South Africa was in that group.
DXCC rules state specifically that cards with alterations are unacceptable, regardless of whether those alterations were made by the originator or not.

In activating a new DXCC entity, the goal of the DXpedition will be to put the new country into the logs of as many DXers as possible.
It was announced this past week that DXCC applicants no longer have to wonder if their cards and applications made it to the DXCC Desk at ARRL HQ for processing.
DXCC will not have to do the manual data entry and the application will be uploaded to the computer saving time and program costs.

The island is separated from its Parent by intervening land or islands that are part of another DXCC Entity, such that a line drawn along a great circle in any direction from any part of the island does not touch the Parent before touching the intervening DXCC Entity.
Entities on the 1998 DXCC List that do not qualify under the current criteria remain as long as they retain the status under which they were originally added.
A change in the DXCC Criteria shall not affect the status of any Entity on the DXCC List at the time of the change.

To be more precise, the radio contacts must be two-way and the DXCC countries does not necessarily correspond to political countries, because also geographical data is considered.
There is a general (or mixed) DXCC certificate, for contacts made on the nine HF bands, in whatever mode (SSB, AM, FM, CW, RTTY), and a series of band-specific and mode-specific certificates.
I upgraded my initial DXCC score on March 2003, to 162 entities for mixed and to 152 entities for phone mode.

The ARRL only recently started issuing the award for QRP operation, but the $10 fee is a bit expensive so I probably won't apply for it.
Since a QSL card and an LOTW entry have equal confirmation value toward the DXCC award, I've combined the totals in the last row of this table.

The changes have come about due to political and military pressures as was the case in Tibet since 1904, first with British control and then again in 1950 after the Chinese invasion of Tibet.
Now, since that AC4 was taken from the DXCC listing in 1974, we can no longer say we worked the country of Tibet but what we have really worked as far as DXCC is concerned, is China, whose prefix is BY.
With the cahnges in DXCC criteria, it is evident that we will be turning to the island areas such as the latest Temotu (H4ØAA) and Xi Sha (BI7Y) DXpeditions for new countries.

ARRL DXCC Manager Bill Moore, NC1L, says that despite reports to the contrary, the League is accepting VU4RBI/VU4NRO Andaman and Nicobar Islands DXpedition QSL cards for DXCC credit.
The ARRL DXCC Desk has approved this operation for DXCC credit: HZ1EX, Saudi Arabia, October 27, 2004, through December 31, 2005.
