The Neath and Tennant Canals   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-29)
Thomas Dadford junior, who was working with his father and Thomas Sheasby as contractor for the Glamorganshire Canal, was asked to do the survey.
By Mid 1792 Thomas Dadford Junior found it necessary to leave his post of General Surveyor, due to his being given the contract to build the Monmouthshire Canal.
The main obstacles to reopening the Neath canal appear to be the culverts at Resolven, and to the North on the A465, the missing aqueduct at Ynysbwllog, also the need to rebuild many of the locks.

The route had been surveyed by Thomas Dadford junior who preferred to build his locks grouped closely together in flights rather than build them at intervals all along the route.
Dadford's recommended line from Brecon to Pontypool was 33 miles long and the scheme was also to include 3 tramways which would connect the canal to local industries.
John Dadford (junior's brother) was appointed engineer on the first tramway on the Brecknockshire and Abergavenny "Canal".

In 1789 the engineer Tomas Dadford Jr, was employed to survey the proposed route of the canal.
Thomas Dadford carried out the survey and as a result revised his plans to include an extension of the canal as far as Kington, which would increase the total distance of the route to 46 miles and was estimated to cost £150,000.
One reason why Dadford chose the final route may have been because Thomas Harley, the largest shareholder, wanted the canal to serve his own estates on the Berrington side of the valley.
