Richard III Society- Bosworth, Paul Trevor Bale
Dadlington at the time was a village, still is in fact, and Market Bosworth exactly that, the market town for the entire region.
The hill Dadlington stands on slopes gently down to the bed of the valley of the Tweed, where it meets the old Roman road that runs across the plain of Redemore from the west, in a straight line, to Sutton Cheney and beyond to Leicester.
Dadlington in turn would have provided Lord Thomas with the best view of the area after Ambien, while he was deciding which side of the fence to jump down on.

Richard III Society- What do we really know about Bosworth?
Dadlington, a town about one and a half miles to the south, is a strong candidate for the actual battle site.
In 1511, the Chapel of St. James in Dadlington petitioned for a chantry foundation, since the bodies of the men who died in the conflict were buried there.
According to William Burton, a local 17th century historian, the battle was christened "Bosworth" after the most notable town in its vicinity (ibid.), much in the same way the Battle of Agincourt got its name from a nearby castle.

The Battle of Bosworth Field - Points of View.
The village of Dadlington in Leicestershire (situated between Hinckley, Bosworth and Nuneaton,) believes that it was far closer to the Battle of Bosworth Field than history gives it credit for.
It seems that Dadlington's significance, during and after the battle has been obscured for centuries and it is only recently through the efforts of historians, that this significance is coming to light.
Recent research has shown that many victims of the battle are buried in Dadlington, and thus King Henry VIII in 1511, chose it's church as the setting for a chantry commemorating the battle dead.

Many of the slain were buried in the churchyard at Dadlington back in 1843.
English Heritage has recently stated that Foss' work on the battle shifting more to Dadlington is one of the most concise accounts at present.
Given the fact that Dadlington is in Redemore or vica versa, we need to look at where the battle shifted and if it is just the case that many bodies were buried at the church.

In 1511 the chapelwardens of Dadlington petitioned King Henry VIII for a chantry foundation in memory of those who fell at the battle of Bosworth, 1485 (the graveyard there being the main place of interment for the dead).
A 'Letter of Confraternity' was published and the chantry was established in a minimal form but dissolved in 1547 under Edward VI with the general abolition of such foundations.

 Battle2
Dadlington's chief claim to fame lies in its intimate association with the battle fought on 22nd August 1485, at the end of which Richard III (below)
Dadlington churchyard was the main place of interment for those slain in the battle, and a considerable number of human skeletons, arrowheads and pieces of weaponry and armour have been unearthed within Stoke Golding and Dadlington parishes (although, unfortunately, many before modern archaeological techniques were developed).
Dadlington's significance, during and after the battle, was therefore obscured for centuries.

The earliest sources call the battle's location 'Redemore', which is derived from an Old English phrase meaning 'reedy marshland', and a document from 1209 refers to Redemore as being in the fields of Dadlington.
According to William Burton, a local Seventeenth Century historian, the battle was christened 'Bosworth' after the most notable town in its vicinity, much in the same way the Battle of Agincourt got its name from a nearby castle.
Some historians have accepted a compromise scenario in which the battle starts out at Ambien Hill and moves into Dadlington when the Yorkists are routed.

The battlefield site, now open to the public, is close to the villages of Sutton Cheney and Market Bosworth in Leicestershire.
The actual site of the battle has been the topic of often contentious debate among professional and amateur historians, with a compelling case being made for siting the battle closer to the villages of Dadlington and Stoke Golding, although most are agreed that Richard's encampment the night before the battle was indeed on Ambion Hill.
Henry Lord Percy Earl of Northumberland, with Lords Thomas and William Stanley, and their troops, watched the beginning of the engagement as the rest of York's army fought Henry Tudor's French mercenaries and loyal exiles, the Stanleys seem to have taken up a position some distance away from the two main armies.
