Daedalus (ENT episode) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This episode should not be confused with the identically titled Star Trek: Enterprise novel, Daedalus by Dave Stern, which was published in 2003 and followed by a sequel, Daedalus' Children, in 2004.
"Daedalus" is the name of the 86th episode from the television series Star Trek: Enterprise.
"Daedalus" is the first completely standalone Enterprise episode since " First Flight " which aired nearly two years earlier.

Daedalus: Part One of Two (Star Trek: Enterprise)
Just after the midway point the plot of "Daedalus" takes it's first startling twist but it is in the final chapter that Stern guarantees you'll want to read part two, "Daedalus's Children", by dropping another astonishing, and hopefully unforeseen turn into the story.
The title, Daedalus, refers to the ship of that name, an experimental warp capable vessel that exploded on its maiden voyage thirteen years earlier.

 Nightly.Net: ST: ENT, Daedalus
To me the Daedalus was another chance to see into the lives/minds of the heroes, to see how they act to affect the 'situation' instead of how the 'situation' affects them.
Be cool to see the Daedalus class starship, since i is supposed to be a contemporary of the NX class...
We don't want/need all the episodes to be 'fate of the galaxy' ordeals - any series gets boring very quickly when that happens.

ST Universe Episode Review - Enterprise Season 4 Daedalus
The episode also manages to be quite atmospheric, with the energy-drain problems resulting in darkened rooms and corridors lit only by the odd computer panel.
Of course, the flipside of this is that it could be said that the episode was trying too hard to be spooky, and than the predictable script failed to create any suspense — but you have to give the lighting guys credit for their technical accomplishments, if nothing else.
All in all, while the episode may have been uninspired and fairly predictable, it was not actually executed badly.

Star Trek: Enterprise - Memory Alpha
Originally titled Enterprise, "Star Trek" was added starting the third season episode " Extinction ".
The series was not a ratings success and the number of third and fourth season episodes was reduced.
After running for four seasons, the series was cancelled by UPN on February 2, 2005, with the final episode airing on May 13.

 Enterprise review: Daedalus
The first established canon appearances of Daedalus starships were actually the destruction of two of them: the Archon and the Essex, both destroyed in 2167 (12 years after this episode).
A third Daedalus ship, the Horizon, is destroyed in 2168 (13 years after this episode).
The last of the Daedalus ships were removed from service in 2196, a span of 34 years from the unofficial launch, and 29 years since the first "canon" existance of the ships - the destruction of the Archon and the Essex.

TrekWeb.com - "Daedalus" Shows Decline in Ratings, UPN Got Last Spot for Friday Night
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Enterprise but found Daedalus to be one of, if not the worst episode in a few years.
The ratings of a given episode are not reflective of the success or failure of that given episode, but rather, the momentum (or lack thereof) going into it.
This could spell the end for ENT becuase they will overlap for 6 episodes or so and that is probably when the decision will be made.

Ex Astris Scientia - Star Trek Enterprise (ENT) Season 4
Their stay in the Forge slows down the second half of the episode, and while they are not achieving any visible progress the more interesting events take place on Enterprise and on Vulcan.
This loss of intellectual substance is a shortcoming of the episode, along with the overdose of violence, although the latter contributes to the plot in that it divides Soong and his "children".
The episode was littered with references to Trek history, plus several new terms like "Augments" or "Borderland", and it might have been wiser to limit the scope to just Earth's problem with the remnants of the Eugenics Wars.

Amazon.com: Books: Shockwave (Star Trek: Enterprise)
This work by Paul Ruditis is the novelization of the final episode for season one and the first episode of season two for Star Trek: Enterprise, overall well worth reading for any Star Trek fan, and others who like science fiction.
Although the book is like the episodes its based on in Season One, the book is well worth the adventure.
Jonathan Archer is thrusted into the future to prevent the destruction of mankind and the Federation as well as the prevention of the devestations of the Temperal Cold War.

 TrekBBS: ENT Books
I certainly enjoyed the first Daedalus book more than the second but nevertheless, I agree: I also would like to read more Enterprise novels in future and am looking forward to the two books that have been announced.
With the ending of the series in May, will there be more ENT books being released to compensate or are we going to be sticking to a measily 1 or 2 a year.
I don`t think you will get a helpful result when you just throw all Trek books into a big pot and then try to find out how many of the buyers are male and female.

In a voice-over viewing the ships exterior, Archer's Log explains he has reduced power to all but critical systems to explain the stark mood lighting throughout the rest of the episode.
A typical use of irony in SF that a character uses invention to magically overcome physical limitations.

Going to have some trouble fitting Enterprise in on Friday nights with SCI-FI blocking out the 8pm to 11pm time block with SG-1, SG: Atlantis, and BSG (which, by the way, wasn't too bad for the first 2 episodes).
I don't think I have watched one ENT episode this year.
I think I've had to BT half the episodes this season.

 SpaceBattles.com - Being transported/Teleported
But the issues should really have cropped up when it was approved for biomatter - and in ENT's first episode some people were still concerned about using it (and it was stated it had been approved for biomatter) - so most likely it was all addressed some years before the start of Enterprise (at least).
There was that one Voyager episode where they killed people and transported them to an asteroid, and after theya rrived Voyager picked up "energy" entering into the rings around the planet (ie their soul).
I suppose it was in some episode of TOS or maybe ENT, one that I have either forgotten or haven't seen yet.

Since the next episode Bounty is part of a Klingon-related story arc, and the entire third season consisted of one story arc, "First Flight" would be the last completely standalone Enterprise episode until "Daedalus" aired midway through season 4.
"First Flight" is the title of a Star Trek: Enterprise television episode from season two.
Archer relates how he befriended his future chief engineer Charles Tucker III and how early experiments with warp power nearly ended the NX program a decade before the launch of Enterprise.

My point is that between the Enterprise era and the TNG era people had far more important and pressing business to worry about than a possible invasion at some point in the future, which maybe wouldn't even ever happen.
My only real issue is the 'Akira-prize' and the use of the name Enterprise even though it was said more than once in TNG that the 1701-D was the fifth starship to bear the name and not the sixth.
2 new serieses takes its place, each will have only 13 to 16 episodes per season instead of 22 to 26.

Though Daedalus was known for many creations, perhaps the most noteworthy event he is known for is the escape of his son and himself from Crete and tyrant Minos.

 Enterprise review: Daedalus
The UN-official launch of the first Daedalus-class starships were in 2162 (7 years after this episode is set), according to the Last Uniforn RPG game (information I read second-hand, I don't actually have this game).
Then the next scene is of Trip and T'Pol talking about something that's not important, the scene is only used as filler to fill in space and is never brought up again through the whole episode and has nothing to do with anything at all.
This scene is also the second scene of the episode that features the two lead black guest-stars.

 Observer Effect - Memory Alpha
Since the galaxy of TOS seems to be swarming with noncorporeal beings, the producers of Enterprise decided to implement such a race in one of their episodes again.
Furthermore, like " Daedalus" before it, Observer Effect is a "bottle show", with less action than usual and no guest stars.
Observer Effect also, therefore, is the first time that the Cardassians are mentioned in the Star Trek timeline.
