The Daedalus-class was an early class of Starfleet starship.
This class of starship was presumably named after the character of Daedalus in Greek mythology.
It was apparently mentioned to be the same as the J class starship Fleet Captain Pike used for the training cruise in which he was crippled by delta rays, even though the Daedalus-class is obviously not the same as a J class.

During the time of the episode this class had been retired.
