Daedelus: Of Snowdonia: Pitchfork Record Review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-10)
Daedelus seems to have unusually high regard for his source material, and his samples correspondingly maintain their historical sediment despite his anachronistic dust-off.
Daedelus has chosen samples of a substantially more unified ilk here, and to dizzying effect, he often hurdles through them seven or eight at a time.
In addition, Daedelus intrudes upon his samples more: guitar, standard IDM color and drum effects, and even his own voice peek into the mix, hoping to bridge the distance between the sampled fragments and the new audience.

 Daedelus - Invention (Plug Research)
Daedelus' sample choice is mainly first rate, pulling from old Hollywood movie soundtracks, jazz and big bands, and is always accompanied by beats that twist the sound sources without subverting them.
Daedelus should continue to seek out collaborators and contributors, as they add some color to his formula.
In the end, Daedelus finds himself sitting on the fence between accomplished electronic music and a land of musical treasures yet to be explored.

Like an electric amusement park in slow motion, Daedelus best represents what could be the binary dreams of computers after their human counterparts unplug and shutdown for the night.
Frankly, even Daedelus isn't quite sure what kind of artist he is, though for the record, he has been formally trained on double bass and bass clarinet and studied jazz at USC.
Daedelus provides less than conventional hip-hop beats for the album while the lyricists smash political slandering and ad hoc imagery into some of the strangest, if not funniest, hip-hop that's been released.

Daedelus: Rethinking the Weather: Pitchfork Record Review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-10)
That's why the new Daedelus album is a little perplexing: It's a "rethinking" of this year's The Weather, an album that found Busdriver and Radioinactive unleashing arrhythmic non-sequiturs and product placement over Daedelus' harp-filling, beat-killing wingtip hip-hop.
The first sound on the new album is a sample: "We broke up because there were intergroup pressures and it was an experiment" (okay, it was on the original album, too, but still-- the first thing you hear?!).
To ignore this possibly fictional animosity for a moment, The Weather's beats were actually pretty inspired, especially given that Daedelus was an IDM artist sampling ultra-vintage 78s for the Plug Research label long before he ever attempted a project like this one.

The Los Angeles bedroom electronic artist weaves strange and brilliant little wordless stories from wildly disparate sound sources: keyboard clacking and modem whine, ambient electronic noise, sampled strings, and organic sounds from nature.
Daedelus debuted in 2001 with the little heard Her's Is>[sic] on Phthalo Recordings, a breaks-filled hardcore electronic record as indebted to the likes of Satie, Cage, Mingus, and P-Funk as to his 21st century IDM peers.
The hip hop influence grew on 2003's The Quiet Party, a kind of super appendix to Invention, on which Daedelus turned over those genre-blurring tracks to an underground hip hop all-star cast including Busdriver, Madlib, High Priest from Anti Pop Consortium, and Abstract Rude.
