It is often argued that Dagenham was built for the sole purpose of supplying labour for the Ford plant, yet the estate predates the building of the Ford complex.

I am told by the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis that the Barking and Dagenham Operational Command Unit (OCU) had 411 police officers at the end of September 2004.
It is not possible to separately show the number of officers in the Dagenham parliamentary constituency from the rest of the BCU.
The deployment of officers in Barking and Dagenham OCU is a matter for the borough commander.

Although Village includes the neighbourhood of 'Old Dagenham' with its history of habitation since the 7th Century ; and Cambell has evidence of artefacts more than 4000 years old, the greater part has been farmland until 1920s.
