The county is bordered on the north by Wyoming, on the east by Colorado.
Daggett County was used for the summer grazing of sheep and cattle trailed in from parts of northern Utah and southwestern Wyoming until the introduction of irrigation in the l890s by Adolph Jessen, Ellsworth Daggett, R. Chambers, and others made it possible for farmers and their families to live there.
Daggett County's economy is based primarily on the raising of livestock, hay, and alfalfa, but it is also an important producer of electric power for Utah and surrounding states.

In the county, the population was spread out with 23.20% under the age of 18, 8.90% from 18 to 24, 27.40% from 25 to 44, 27.00% from 45 to 64, and 13.50% who were 65 years of age or older.
Daggett County is governed by three commissioners, an auditor/recorder, a clerk/treasurer, assessor and sheriff, all elected for four-year terms in partisan elections.
