Dagor Dagorath - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Dagor Dagorath, Sindarin for 'Battle of Battles' or 'Final Battle', is an event described in the works of J.
The remaining clue to this prophecy is found at the end of Akallabêth, where "Ar-Pharazôn and his mortal warriors who had set foot on Aman were buried by falling hills, imprisoned in the Caves of the Forgotten until the "Last Battle and Day of Doom".
Sauron, whose ruined spirit fled to the Void after the destruction of the Ring, will be present at Dagor Dagorath.

The Barrow-Downs Discussion Forum - Will Turin become a Valar?
In the early 1950s, in the Annals of Aman, there is still a reference connecting Menelmacar, Turin, and the Dagor Dagorath, but a few years later Tolkien wrote the note which ends the published Quenta SIlmarillion, which illustrates that the Second Prophecy of Mandos has essentially disappeared.
It's not quite as clear-cut as that, however, for there is in fact a reference to Dagor Dagorath dating from 1972, in the fragment in alliterative verse connected with the Istari material (in UT).
However, these later references are in the forms of small hints of a Dagor Dagorath at the end of the world.

This article states that the Dagor Dagorath is clearly inspired by and bears many similarities to Ragnarök.
Now, I think that the Christian prophecy is much more similar to the Dagor Dagorath than the Norse Ragnarök.
Therefor, unless I am wrong or Tolkien actually connected the two himself, I believe that it is wrong to say definitely that the Dagor Dagorath was inspired by Ragnarök.

Dagor Dagorath group was founded by Vorog (guitar, vocals) and Getman Azach(keyboards, voices) in the summer 2002 after they got acquainted with Destroyer B (lead-guitar).Some time later Mizgir (bass guitar) joined the group and the process of writining songs began (in the style of fl-death.)
During half a year several drummers changed in the group. They haven't found a suitable drummer and Dagor Dagorath decided to use a drum-machine.
Step by step the Dagor Dagorath group began to deviate to Pagan Black-Metal and because of this Destroyer B left the group.By February 2003 all the basic material was written-5 songs. The first concert was on February 23rd,2003.

That doesn't change the fact that the Valar were no longer gods, that the Dagor Dagorath had been abandoned, and that Turin -- if he were to return at all -- would still have been mortal, doomed to die and leave the circles of the world forever as all men were.

agor Dagorath is the final battle foretold in The Second Prophecy of Mandos.
In no finalized version of Tolkien's, such as the ones used in The Silmarillion is there an account of Dagor Dagorath, so the above cannot be considered purely canonical.
In The Silmarillion a change was made, in that Elwing did not accompany him on his journeys through the pathless voids, not being able to endure the colds and loving rather the earth and the sweet winds that blow on sea and hill.

In one of the HoMe books, it says that Túrin kills Melkor in the Dagor Dagorath (sp?), then Fëanor remakes/recovers the Silmarils, and Yavanna makes two new Trees, the Pélori are flattened, and the Light of the Trees is spread throughout the entire world.
I have even removed all metion of whether or not Tolkien would have written the dagor dagorath (sorry I messed up on the last post).
Even when Eriol was to take a role in the great second march of the Elves, that would not be the begining of the Dagorath because the march was crused and would not have the result the elves hoped for.

I personally wouldn't like to hear about the Dagor Dagorath: it's a bit like the 'end of the world', and you'll know then there's nothing more afterwards, it's like the ending of it all.
It would lack any interest from me because the Elves wouldn't be in it, or even if they were their part would be greatly diminished, more so than it was in LotR.
Also, for the fact that he wrote several ways the Dagorlath would play out; of course all ending with the destruction of Morgoth by the hands of either Tulkas, Tuor, or some other character that Morgoth couldn't leave well-enough alone, we already know how it's going to ends so there won't be any surpirse.

In "Unfinished Tales," reference is made to "The Second Prophecy of Mandos." This foretells the Dagor Dagorath, the final battle against Melkor that will end the world (a la Ragnarok, Armageddon).
The reference in Unfinished Tales comes from a passage quoted in the section on "The Istari", and reads as follows: "Manwe will not descend from the Mountain until the Dagor Dagorath, and the Coming of the End, when Melkor returns" (p.
Christopher Tolkien has footnoted this to read: "This is a reference to 'the Second Prophecy of Mandos', which does not appear in The Silmarillion; its elucidation cannot be attempted here, since it would require some account of the history of the mythology in relation to the published version."
