In July 2004, a joint expedition was mounted to investigate Qinghai and Nam Co, the two largest lakes found on the plateau.
As evidenced by the powdery depositions left by the water as it evaporates, the lake is saline, with an alkaline constituency rich in Magnesium Sulfate.

Our intention of visiting Tibet this time was to hold a ceremony of building a monument for Beijing’s work in forestation in the region around the Nam Co Lake.
The Nam Co Lake is a well-known pilgrimage place.
On Zhaxi Peninsula in middle of the lake there is Zhaxi Monastery, where incense smoke rises into the air and the morning bells and evening drums echo far and wide.

With an investment of 38.95m yuan (about 4.87m US dollars), the China Unicom Tibet branch has completed the first phase construction of the CDMA Tibetan network, and will provide service to 20,000 users.
The first phase of the network will cover Lhasa, Dagze County, Doilungdeqen County, Quxu County, Gonggar Airport and areas along highways connecting Lhasa with the region's major counties.
An official with the local telecommunication administration said that the CDMA network operation in Tibet marks a development of the region's telecommunication industry.

In Dagze County, Cering Zhoima's father once borrowed 56 kg of seeds from Gandain Monastery.
At the time when democratic reform was carried out in Tibet in 1959, Cering Zhoima was told that the amount of the seeds owed, including capital and interest, had increased to 3,500 kg.
