Ahmedabad, Aug. 29: Dahod district police have arrested three persons, including two brothers, for assaulting and intending to murder three women after branding them witches in Gamla village.
Dahod superintendent of police R.B. Patel said over phone an anonymous tip-off had enabled police to intervene in the nick of time and save the lives of the three widows.
In tribal Dahod, widows are frequently suspected of being witches and blamed for any death or misfortune in the village, and often killed as punishment.

Every single household and business establishment belonging to the Muslim community was looted and burnt in villages such as Sanjeli, Sukhsar, Piplod and Fatehpura.
Evidence recorded by the Tribunal from Dahod district indicates that the mobs arrived in vehicles such as trucks, tempos, jeeps, Marutis.

As the indefinite bandh continued in Godhra town and Dahod district for the second day on Friday, members of the minority community decided to take out a silent march in the town and sit on a dharna near the district collector's office with banners on Saturday.

 Bilkis Banu case to be heard in Dahod court
All proceedings, including hearing of the bail applications in the Bilkis Banu gangrape-cum-murder case, related to the post-Godhra riots, would now be held at the Dahod district sessions court.
This order was passed by Special Fast Track Court judge H P Patel on a CBI plea that the district court in Ahmedabad did not have jurisdiction to hear the case.
At present, 13 persons, including a BJP leader from Dahod and a head constable from Randhipur, have been arrested and are in judicial custody.

There is no let up in the migration of tribals of Dahod district as hundreds of them continue to migrate daily to “Gujarat” in search of employment.
Dahod district, adjoining Madhya Pradesh, is indeed an integral part of Gujarat but when tribals go in search of employment they say, “We are going to Gujarat.” By Gujarat, they mean other parts of the State like Ahmedabad, Surat, Saurashtra and Kutch.
According to conservative estimates, at least 1,000 to 2,000 tribals from villages in Dahod districts hit the road to cities everyday.

Neither the relatives nor the police are clear about the nature of their deaths as they could have died due to injuries sustained in stone pelting by a mob and also due to suffocation as many of them were cramped into vehicles while fleeing, the case investigating officer said.
