Daihatsu Charade - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Daihatsu considers the Charade considered a large "compact" car to differentiate it from other compacts in its lineup, such as the Daihatsu Mira/Cuore.
The third generation of the Daihatsu Charade (G100) debuted in 1987.
The Charade was restyled in 1996, only two years after release (with the codename G203), and was produced until 2000, when it was replaced by the Sirion/Storia.

Daihatsu Motor Company - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It was reported on 31 March 2005, that Toyota will pull Daihatsu out of the Australian market, after sales dwindled severely.
The same was thought about Daihatsu´s operations in Chile, where its a well known brand for its `70s models as the Charade or Cuore, after sales of around 10 units in 2004 and 2005 (each year).
Daihatsu is quite popular in Venezuela nowadays, with the Terios.

Daihatsu has long experience in the art of producing efficient small-capacity three cylinder engines which are currently offered on both the smaller Cuore and larger Sirion.
The Charade is fitted with solid front disc and rear drum brakes operated by an 8 ins servo unit.
Daihatsu again used the Renault Clio as its benchmark for NVH with the aim of being not only best in the city car class but also among super minis.

 Motoring - Daihatsu Charade
The last time the Charade was seen in South Africa was in the early 80s, and Imperial Daihatsu, which imports the cars into this country, estimates there are still more than 7 000 of these running on our roads.
The Charade name wasn't available at that time - it was used on a 1.6-litre medium-sized Daihatsu - but realignment of the range means Daihatsu cars have a maximum capacity of 1.3-litres - and the latest entry level five-door, fresh out of Japan, is now a Charade again.
Like its predecessor the new Charade still has a 1-litre 3-cylinder engine, but it's now a 41 kW four-valves-per-cylinder DOHC unit that benefits from improvements in midrange torque over that fitted on the Cuore, as well as a totally new front suspension, revised rear suspension, and brand-new styling.

Daihatsu Charade (1996 - 1999) NRMA used car review - Motoring - MyNRMA   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-04)
Daihatsu has been a specialist in the small passenger vehicles market for a long time with the Charade in their model line-up for twenty years.
The 1996 Charade was an update on the previous model incorporating a new body style, upgraded trim, an increase in models available and the 1.5 litre engine added to the CS.
In 1996 the Charade was available in five models starting with the TE 1.0 litre three-door and progressing through the TS 1.3 litre three-door, CE 1.0 litre five-door, CS 1.5 litre five-door hatch to the Di 1.5 litre four-door sedan.

ITV Motoring - Daihatsu Charade   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-04)
On sale here from late May, the Charade is, according to maker Daihatsu, "set to re-write the city car rulebook." A fine piece of PR spin if ever there was one, but it might just be true.
Daihatsu has tried to make the car stylish, and in fact has managed to achieve a decent aerodynamic drag figure of 0.31, but there's a limit to how attractive you can make a car of this size and still keep a reasonable level of practicality.
Another aspect of the Charade is rather less practical and suggests that some of Daihatsu's designers spent a little too long tasting the fruit of the whimsy tree.

Daihatsu Charade (2003-) - 4Car Road Test from Channel 4 - Fact File
Daihatsu again used the Renault Clio as a benchmark in its NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) tests, and special attention was paid to engine boom, shaking at idling speeds, engine vibrations and wind intrusion.
The Charade has a new engine mounting system to reduce vibration, and a front floor panel which is curved to deflect sound.
Daihatsu was understandably worried about the effects of a Charade being hit by a larger, higher car, and so put the side cross-member structures high up, at the same level as much larger cars, such as the Toyotas Corolla or Avensis, or a big Lexus saloon - the vehicles studied.

CARkeys - Daihatsu Charade 1.0 SL
Daihatsu says the luggage space is - well, it uses some rather optimistic adjective.
In fact, with the rear seats in place the luggage capacity is pretty miserly, but you can‘t have such a roomy cabin and expect miracles of load space in a car with a tailgate rather than a three-box boot.
Anyway, apart from all that, I thought the Charade was terrific; not cutting-edge in its general design, perhaps, but usefully roomy, surprisingly rapid for a car with only 57bhp and - in addition to being a splendid city machine - amazingly good to drive on long journeys, especially ones involving lots of corners.

There is no big difference between the Japanese and overseas version except that the latter has a 1.0-litre engine while the former is limited to 0.66-litre due to the K-car regulation.
All K-cars are no more than 1475mm wide, but the little Daihatsu manages to make the doors so thin (and still complies with safety reg) that the cabin width measures 1300mm.
Daihatsu Move has vast of space, but it is considered too tall for the arising popular tower parking in Japan’s cities.

Daihatsu Charade   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-04)
The Charade slogged on from 1993 to 2001 in this incarnation, and was long outclassed by plenty of more modern alternatives in the small hatchback class.
The ride, handling and cabin space were below average for the class, and despite a good reputation for reliability, this Charade has never been more than mediocre.
Daihatsu can do so much better than this now - just look at the Sirion instead, or indeed, if you can run to a (cheap) new car, the very roomy brand new Charade (see separate road test), which thankfully bears no resemblance to this one whatsoever.
