		From what I've seen (IMHO), the Daito ryu that is demonstrated and taught publicly by instructors like Kondo Sensei is jujutsu, as opposed to the more conservative ("secretive") aiki techniques of Daito ryu, which are rarely shown or taught publicly (aside from the Roppokai's version).
		I agree with the others who have stated that cross training would be beneficial, but I'm not sure that approaching Daito ryu as a "cross trained" art would garner the specific results that would seem to be the mainstay of Daito ryu (as little as I know of it, anyway).

		I have encountered Kondo Sensei twice myself at the Aiki Expo and I know he is overseeing the practice of folks training in various places around the states.
		It would seem to me that we are really talking about the difference between the folks who are really doing Daito Ryu under a legitimate teacher and those who are bogus, trying to make up some Daito Ryu-like content that would only fool a group of beginners who wouldn't know any better.
		It is hard for a beginner to get a good clue when there are instructors claiming to teach Daito ryu which is warmed over karate, kung fu, chi na, jujutsu, etc. Its a shame really...

		Since Daito Ryu is still not very represented in the states, I thought a study group might be a good way to start with it.
		I got in touch with a fellow on another MA board who is part of the Daito Ryu study group.
		I was able to see lots of similarities in the Daito Ryu techniques and the Hapkido ones I know, but it was still daunting trying to take in 30 techniques in a single weekend.
