Dale Crover - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Crover joined The Melvins on drums in 1984, after the original drummer left the band.
After Hokanson left the band, Cobain and Crover went to the house of Cobain's aunt in Seattle, Washington and recorded a 16-song demo on a 4-track in December of 1985.
Also in 1990, Crover (drums), Cobain (guitar/vocals) and Nirvana -drummer Dave Grohl (on bass) recorded a demo version of "Drain You", that was released in 2004 on the With the Lights Out boxset.

In December of 1986 they recorded their first full album Gluey Porch Treatments, at Studio D in Sausalito, California, that came out in 1987 on Alchemy Records (later rereleased as a bonus on the CD version of their second album Ozma on Boner Records and in 1999 on Ipecac Recordings with some garage demos).
Crover helped out on drums in Cobain's band Nirvana when they recorded a ten song demo on January 23, 1988 at the Reciprocal Recording Studios in Seattle, Washington, and played a live show in Tacoma, Washington later that day.
After finishing the work on the Bullhead album, the band then toured Europe and their January 23, 1991 show in Alzey, Germany was released as Your Choice Live Series Vol.12, without the song It's Shoved that appeared on the It's Your Choice compilation.

 Nirvana Album Reviews
The album’s other energy-blast is “Territorial Pissings,” which is about the only song on this album that could qualify as ‘punk’ (using the clichéd definition of “fast and aggressive rock song that speeds ahead so fast you’re ruining the seat cover”).
Before the release of their sophomore album, no one predicted these scruffy guys would become one of the biggest bands in the world, selling millions of albums, selling out all the venues and leaving their mark on pop culture (remember how even all those pop acts and 80’s hair metal bands suddenly restyled themselves?).
Also on the album are the melodic “Been a Son,” the early Nirvana-classic “Sliver,” the exciting b-side “Aneurysm,” and, for the completists, the garagey “Spank Thru,” one of the band’s earliest songs, and the album’s only ‘unknown’ song.

Dale Crover is in his element on Succulento, attacking the skins just as viciously as he did on the 14 year old Bullhead sessions, creating the ideal momentum to launch both Moss and Anderson into an ominous 12 minute void of whooshing, asthmatic feedback and plodding low end.
Masters Billy and Tim have roped in drum legend Dale Crover (Melvins) to participate in an almost epic scale of sonic riffs and compositions entering a new plateau of stoned regalia and perfect harmonies seized by alternations of imaginations and grit.
On the band's third album Wine, Women and Song, guitarist/mastermind Tim Moss is joined by stoner metal producer Billy Anderson on bass and Melvins drummer Dale Crover on the skins, giving him the engine his vehicle has always deserved.

Their garage band credentials notwithstanding (and what band doesn't start out in a garage?), it helps a great deal that the boys are indeed fine musicians.
In addition to Crover on drums, the other original member is Buzz Osborne on guitar and vocals; they are joined by Kevin Rutmanis, the latest in a series of bassists.
Their musicianship is highlighted on two very long numbers, which follow in the great Melvins' tradition of playing as though the radio single never existed.

What I really love about this album is it's sound; they obviously used tube amps when recording, giving their music that nice, warm humming sound coming from Krist's bass and Kurt's guitar.
As well, I really like Kurt's voice on this album in contrast to "Nevermind" or "In Utero" where he tends to scream incessently; his voice is more calm, more in control, and it has much better tone.
Although the album does not have pop-hit after pop-hit like Nevermind, nor does it contain the abstract qualities of In Utero, it stands as a great moment in Seattle music, or indie rock for that matter.

Along with the spirit of youth and the growth of punk rock by their side, it was destined they would someday belt out some kick ass tunes, and call themselves the Melvins.
There’s some of that classic rockin’ sludge we’ve grown to know and love (including a pre-Dale Crover version of "Set Me Straight"), but it’s the fast, raw and hopeful ferocity of a time when hardcore was brewing, that really makes this release such a gem.
While the Melvins were never considered a punk band, and much less a hardcore band, they still managed to squish their way into such fan bases over the past twenty years.
