James N. B, Dodson was then appointed clerk of the court, and Martin Fulbright received his Commission from the governor of the State authorizing him to perform functions of the office of sheriff of the county, and William A. Pope was appointed assessor of revenues.
On February 23, 1843, the General Assembly of the State of Missouri changed the name of County of Kinderhook to the County of Camden.

Niangua was the name chosen for this county when it was first organized in 1841; after boundaries were slightly changes in December 1844, officials renamed the county Dallas because Niangua was hard to spell, write and pronounce.
During the February term of 1868 the court appointed Eleazer Hovey, a dentist, superintendent of a new courthouse to be built upon the square and appropriated $15,000.
Thomas Hart Benton immortalized this Dallas County courthouse in a painting done in the 1950s.

In September the rebel Colonel Brown, of Saline County, made an attach on Boonville, with a force of about 1,000, but was successfully repulsed after 1.5 hours of hard fighting, with a loss of 100 killed and wounded, including 5 officers, of whom the most prominent were Col. Brown and Capt. Brown.
The organization is generally credited to Franklin county, but judging from the records of September, 1861, when it was active, it was apparently recruited from several counties.
Organized in Barry Co., MO June, 1861, by the authority of Colonel Phelps, and approval of General Sigel August, 1861; and the duty performed consisted in scouting and watching the movements of the enemy until August, 1861, when it was disbanded.
