Dalmellington Iron Works   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-11)
As it has been noted the late 1840's saw the establishment of the Dalmellington Iron Company at Waterside, as the village was known, taken its name from a farm, though the postal address was Dunaskin (about 2.5 miles from Dalmellington itself).
This to some extent was overcome by their customers' regard for the quality of the DICO iron, but the quality of iron was improving greatly south of the border and it was unlikely this commercial edge could continue.
When Dalmellington Iron Company started operations in the 1840's Lethanhill was developed as a miners camp, a supply depot for the labour force required to work the coal and ironstone.
