Mary Dalton's first husband McIntyre died; she then married a Dalton, who then died, leaving her with children from her first marriage, and none from the second; Dalton could also be her maiden name.

Dalton was studying the properties of gasses, particularly the ratios of volumes of gasses combining to form a chemical compound.

Daltons atomic laws were an improvement over the speculations of the Greek Atomists, since Daltons theory was capable of explaining and the results of actual experiments and of leading to predictions regarding the results of new experiments.

John Dalton - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Dalton (as proven by examination of his preserved eyeball in 1995) actually had a less common kind of colour blindness, deuteroanopia, in which medium wavelength sensitive cones are missing, rather than functioning with a mutated form of their pigment (deuteroanomaly, which is the most common type of colour blindness.
Dalton communicated his atomic theory to Thomson who, by consent, included an outline of it in the third edition of his System of Chemistry (1807), and Dalton gave a further account of it in the first part of the first volume of his New System of Chemical Philosophy (1808).
Dalton had requested that his eyes be examined after his death, in an attempt to discover the cause of his colour-blindness; he had hypothesised that his aqueous humour might be coloured blue.

According to Dalton's law, the partial pressure exerted by the nitrogen and by the oxygen which make the air will be equal to the total pressure of the air; and they will increase simultaneously.
This explains why Dalton's law is so important for divers and why they should understand it and prevent the effects it explains.

John Dalton (1766-1844) was the first to discover that in a container containing a mixture of gas, the total pressure is the sum of all partial pressures of its components.
The ideal gas law includes the law of partial pressures, because the total number of moles is the sum of moles of all the components in the mixture.

It should be noted that during operation, due to removal of the vapor-phase permeate, the actual fugacity of the vapor is lower than anticipated on basis of the collected (condensed) permeate.
