The Damara leaders are scheduled to meet at the weekend in the town of Okombahe, some 200 kilometres north-west of Namibia's capital, Windhoek.
While historians agree that some Damara communities were strongly affected by the events in 1904, current Damara leaders feel they have been largely ignored by Germany because of their silence on the issue.
Chif /Gaseb, Damara leader Chief Justus //Garoeb and others have called a meeting for leaders, historians and informed Germans at Okombahe in the hope of shedding more light on how the Damara people were affected by the war.

DAMARA leader Justus Garoeb's decision to return to Parliament has been criticised as "purely financial" and not in the best interests of his people.
Gaseb, a senior headman from the Royal House, claimed that he and several other people linked to Swapo were not notified of the recent Damara King's Council meeting at which Garoeb was given the go-ahead to return to Parliament.
He said before he was inaugurated as Damara King, he and the late Simson Gobs had personally gone together to offer Gaseb the position because he was from the Royal House, but Gaseb had refused to take the position.
