Rice's combination of luscious melodies, folksy guitar and raw, emotive vocals have charmed audiences around Ireland, and are beginning to seduce mellow music fans in the UK and the United States as well.
Rice, who shared the stage with co-vocalist Lisa Hannigan and cellist Vyvienne Long, sang his heart out for the duration, and was rewarded with no less than five extensions to his set.

Damien Rice was one of my favourite singers of 2004 because of his debut album "O." That album was a slow-burner up the UK album charts and spent most of 2004 in the Top 40, frequently climbing into the Top 10.
Damien is joined by Lisa Hannigan on the vocals, as she serves as the haunting muse that dominated throughout O. The guitar on this song is really impressive and the high-pitch vocal duo between the two near the end is the highlight.

An Irish lad born in the 70s, Rice recorded this disc in various "houses and homes" (as he puts it in the liner notes) around the UK and in Paris.
While Rice's lyrics are excellent, it is his ability, using his voice and his core accompianists, to evoke memories and feelings that amazes.

I suggest to Damien that being a singer or musician must be like choosing a wildcard for life that that in one sense it must be impossible to know what to expect or what's coming next.
It is a luscious and sensual ballad where Damien sings one short verse in hushed delivery in French and which is derivative of the inspiration he gleaned when travelling and busking the streets and pavements of Europe, following his split from Juniper.
This gave Damien the scope he needed to achieve the level of spontaneity on his album that he sought and allowed him to record the selection of songs that he had been perfecting while travelling abroad.
