The Damon Knight Memorial Grand Master Award is an award given by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America.
Officially, it is not a Nebula Award though it is awarded at the Nebula ceremony.
The Gandalf Grand Master Award for life achievement in fantasy writing was awarded annually by the World Science Fiction Society from 1974 to 1980.

The title Damon Knight Memorial Grand Master is bestowed upon a living author for a lifetime's achievement in science fiction and/or fantasy.
While it is not a Nebula Award, the Grand Master honor is conferred as part of the Nebula Awards
Until 2002 the title was simply "Grand Master." In 2002 it was renamed in honor of SFWA's founder, Damon Knight, who died that year.

The grand master title will be conferred during the group's meeting and awards banquet, May 11-13 in New York City.
"The grand master award is an honor that every science fiction writer aspires to but few dare consider might happen," Gunn said.

By DORMAN T. When the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America honor Robert Silverberg with the Damon Knight Memorial Grand Master Award at the annual Nebula Awards Banquet this weekend in Seattle, he'll join a list of winners that include Robert Heinlein, Issac Asimov and Jack Williamson.
In 1956, the year he received a degree in comparative literature from Columbia University, Silverberg was awarded a Hugo (the other of science fiction's two top honors) as most promising new author.
In fact, "with the grand master award as a kind of consummation of everything I've been working toward all my life," Silverberg will be doing some traveling, reading and a bit of ruminating about what direction to take next.
