Damour is a very dear town to me, this is the "maternal" hometown, where my mum and her ancestors were born and lived, and where lots of my maternal relatives martyred in 1976.
The plain of Damour is one of very rare green spots left on the Lebanese coast, and has the distinguished past of serving for more than two centuries (17th-20th) as the silk capital of Lebanon.
When Damour fell to the Allies, Beirut was proclaimed an open city and General Charles De Gaulle was able to enter the Lebanese capital without a fight.

The Christian-populated towns, Damour and Jiyeh, were massacred after a week of siege and intensive shelling on January 20, 1976 by a combined force of leftwing militia fighters, Palestinian terrorists and PLA forces (2,000 Palestine Liberation Army had entered Lebanon from Syria in Late December 1975).
Both towns were pillaged then destroyed, at least 500 people were killed; even the orange trees were stripped of their fruit in the citrus groves.

When Damour was surrounded from land many Syrian-Orthodox fighters were trasfered by boat from East-Beirut to Damur to help their Maronite brothers in defending the city against the attackers, and several of them lost their lives in the process.
When Damour with President Kamil Shamoun's palace at Al-Sa3diyat was under attack, the Syrian-Orthodox were among the first people who went to the rescue.
