 Dan Patrick:Gross Heisman injustice?
Currently, the Heisman goes to the best skill player on the best team in the country (see: 1992 winner Gino Torretta, the Miami quarterback who wasn't even the best player on his own team and still won).
There are no Heisman rules dictating age parameters, yet we've gone from complaining that ex-Florida State quarterback Chris Weinke (last year's winner) was too old to saying that Grossman is too young.
Titans running back and former Heisman Trophy winner Eddie George told me Monday that he believes Grossman is the best player in the country and age won't be a factor in his vote.

Heisman: In a nutshell, it’s making sure that before you make a move, you make sure you can safely meet your opponents checks, captures, and threats that he could play in reply to your move, and you must do that every move.
Heisman: Yes, but it is also work to play good chess (not just study work, but work on each move) and from instructing, it is clear that many players do not wish to do this, because it takes the fun out of it.
Heisman: It seems my worst students are the ones who want their lessons formal and humorless, and know exactly what they want.

Heisman: I played a little when I got better in 1976-77 - by then the young guns were strong, led by IM Bruce Rind, IM Rich Costigan, FM Tom Costigan, FM Karl Dehmelt.
Heisman: No, I am sure he thought it might be true, but IBM also made a mistake in refusing to try to find Be4 a 2nd time.
Heisman: No one has measured past that, but the curve was not close to 0, so improvement is still likely after that, dropping off much more gradually than thought previously up to 17-18 ply.

Ichiro's Edge from The Hardball Times
In the September 8, 2004, edition of SABR-L, Dan Heisman posed a question which seemed to me to be worthy of a few hours’ research.
The impact of the longer schedule on the probability of a player of breaking the home run record is different if the player needs to hit 62 homers than it is if he needs to hit 61.
Heisman speculated that it would be “easier, but not dramatically so.” I would have agreed.
