Topic: Dan L P Dike

 Volcanic and hydrothermal processes
We propose that the NPM were erupted from a dike or dikes injected laterally to the north from a magma body lying beneath the YSF.
Alternatively, the dike that fed the NPM eruption could have been injected vertically from below, but the lack of a long-lived (more than a few years) hydrothermal system implies that its magma source was either completely depleted by the eruption or is sealed off from transferring heat to the seafloor.
We prefer the lateral dike injection model because it is supported by the body of evidence from the mid-ocean ridge system and from terrestrial volcanic systems for long-distance lateral dike injection within rift zones.

 Diamond Exploration in Wyoming
On the extreme western edge of the district (see geological map), sample concentrates with kimberlitic indicator minerals (pyrope, picroilmenite, and chromian diopside) were recovered from stream sediments collected by the WSGS in the 1980s (Hausel and others, 1988).
A 60-ft conductor was identified, and suggests the presence of a dike, or small blow, east of the kimberlite outcrop.
This produced a 90-ft long conductor over the projected trend of the dike, and is interpreted to be a reflection of the kimberlite beneath the heavily vegetated depression.

 PLACER DIAMONDS
A prospector should be able to pan for diamonds as one would pan for gold, and Wyoming and Colorado provide excellent hunting grounds for placer diamonds.
When found in streams, diamonds may have been liberated from nearby kimberlite, lamproite, or related lamprophyric pipe or dike, or may have come from diamond pipes hundreds of miles away.
These diamond-rich dikes undoubtedly supplied tens of thousands of diamonds into George Creek and the adjacent tributaries during the geological past.

Each pond dike was enclosed with a fine mesh net fence about 1 m tall, supported by bamboo sticks, with the lower end of the net buried in the dike soil to prevent entry of wild fish and movement of stocked snakehead from one pond to another.
Dan and Little (2000) reported that growth difference between sex-reversed and mixed-sex Thai strain of Nile tilapia (new-season seed) was significant when cultured in ponds but not significant when cultured in cages.

Refractory lithophile element abundance patterns in the melt rock are parallel to average L chondrites, demonstrating near-total fusion of the L chondrite target by the impact and negligible crystal-liquid fractionation during emplacement and cooling of the dike.
Moderately volatile lithophile elements such K and Rb were mobilized and heterogeneously distributed in the L chondrite impact breccias whereas highly volatile elements such as Cs and Pb were profoundly depleted in the region of the parent body sampled by Chico.
Volatile element variations in Chico and other L chondrites are more consistent with a mechanism related to impact heating rather than condensation from a solar nebula.

 t72e in fm02
One dike (to the north-west) resulted in fissures in the caldera and on the north-west flank; formation of this dike initiated about 2 hours before the fissuring.
The second dike, which did not break the surface, propagated more slowly to the south-west and caused strain changes that continued for many days after the eruptive activity.
Deflationary tilt changes at Kilauea summit mirror the inferred dike volume history, suggesting that the rate of dike propagation was limited by flow of magma into the dike.
