Dan Marino, born in 1961, American professional football player, a quarterback who retired as the National Football League (NFL) career leader in most major passing categories.
In 1984 Marino became the first quarterback to pass for more than 5,000 yards in a single season, and he also set the single-season record for touchdown passes with 48 (broken in 2004 by Peyton Manning).
Marino was voted NFL player of the year and led the Dolphins to the 1985 Super Bowl, where they lost to the San Francisco 49ers.
