Dana was seven-years-old when officials arrived at the door of the family home in Clarendon Road and took her father, a German-born doctor, for internment.
Nevertheless, Dana this week said that she had very fond memories of her time in Borehamwood, and of the many people she met at the surgery.
Dana got a taste for acting when she joined a dramatic society while at university in South Africa, and decided to return to London to study drama.

Their commander, Col. Wynter (Richard Todd), shares a word with one of his officers, Capt. Parker (Robert Taylor); both are worried about surviving the next few hours.
The film evidently wants us to be saddened by the tragedy of this love triangle that must end in tragedy one way or another: Valerie will have to choose one of her lovers, leaving the other broken-hearted...
Dana Wynter is adequate in presenting Valerie as a woman who is drawn into her second love affair almost against her will, through loneliness and fear, but Taylor's portrayal of Parker presents him, to my eye, as a worthless womanizer.

Wynter said the actors were always responsible for mentally rehearsing their characters and actions before jumping in front of the cameras.
Siegel later claimed that during filming he crept into Wynter's house and slipped a pod under her bed, causing her to become hysterical when she found it.

But Richard Egan, in this movie, is a married man. Dana Wynter is not his wife, but an old flame; he has come back to the South to reclaim not only her but his own lost youth, and it will never do, it cannot be done, not now, not in this decade.

The horror of the situation is all the more chilling for being so understated: a mother, holding a pod, to a nurse, "Shall I put this in with the baby?", "Yes, the there'll be no more crying".
At the heart of the film is the terrible mystery of the process of the take-over, marvellously realized in the sequence where McCarthy and his girlfriend (Wynter) are shown by Belice (Donovan) and his wife the "blank" pod that will become him, if he goes to sleep.
McCarthy's instinctive reaction is equally revealing of Siegel's vision of otherness: with assistance from Donovan McCarthy frantically attacks the pods with a pitchfork, a scene made even more gruesome by the creatures' immobility and their closeness to humanity.
