This is the real reason Danelectroguitars had their pickups wired in series, producing a big punchy sound with more output and midrange than individual pickup settings and eliminating hum.
The magnets are wrapped with a fl electrical cloth tape and after the coil is wound the hookup wire is put on and then rewrapped with electrical tape to protect the coil and to make it fit snugly in the 2 halves of the pickup covers (lipstick lids).
