Residents of the Philippine village of Danglas, Abra, have composed an "anti-malaria jingle" as part of a campaign to eradicate the mosquito-borne disease in the region.
Danglas was chosen by the University of the Philippines' College of Public Health two years ago as a pilot site for the project, since the village has a high incidence of malaria among its 65 households.
The density of mosquito larvae in streams dropped 45% from April 1998 to April 1999.

A CANDIDATE for a local post and a bodyguard for another politician were slain as the Philippines headed into the campaign season for the May elections, police said Monday.
Ceferino Callabag, 54, was shot dead inside a grocery in the northern town of Danglas in Abra province on Sunday night, provincial police director Senior Superintendent Artermio Hicban said.
Gregorio Castaneda, 44, bodyguard of mayoral candidate Wilmer Panabang, was shot dead outside the candidate's house in the town of Penarrubia near Danglas on Saturday, Hicban said.
