Topic: Dangling Man

 [No title]
Even in the era of Pax Aliena, the Super Man had lots of enemies, all of whom had figured out, long before, that even the invulnerable have weaknesses: their friends and families.
I'm willing to make that effort, even though things are very busy here." Hershie toyed with the idea of demolishing the man's office, turning his lovely furniture into molten nacho topping, and finishing up by leaving the man dangling by his suit from the CN Tower's needle.
The man greeted him like an old comrade and got his aide to snap a photo of the two of them shaking hands.

 Saul Bellow
Although Bellow is not considered an autobiographical writer, his Canadian birth is dealt with in his first novel, DANGLING MAN (1944), and his Jewish heritage and his several divorces are shared by many of his characters.
Bellow's mother, Lescha (Liza), was very religious and Bellow himself had learned Hebrew and Yiddish as a young man. Liza's death when he was 17, was a deep emotional shock for him.
While serving with the Merchant Marine, Bellow wrote Dangling Man, which depicted the intellectual and spiritual vacillations of a young man waiting to be drafted.

 Pynchon - Biographical Sketch
Pynch dedicated his masterwork to this man who staged the happenings which later appear, full-blown, I would say, in Vineland, his friend's picture of the Garden of Edenic Herbs being laid waste by the Godzilla of Government.
The card from the deck was The Hanged Man. Ervin turned to me and said Raven must be hung-up on the other side.
I looked down and pondered the odd picture on the card: a man dangling upside down with his feet tied as he hung from some wooden scaffold.
