Representatives from the Daniel Boone National Forest recently met with Fish and Wildlife Service staff to provide updated information about the southern pine beetle outbreak, and to discuss the fate of the red-cockaded woodpecker population.

 Suit Filed Over New ORV Trails in Daniel Boone National Forest
According to an article in the Cincinnati Enquirer ORVs were used on over 800 miles of trails in the national forest under an "open unless closed" policy for ORV use.
She said that the additional trails were opened because the established trails were located mostly in the southern portion of the forest, while the additional trails are located in the northern section of the forest, the article reported.
The article reported that the Forest Service also announced at that time that an additional 34 miles of trails would be analyzed in the Moorehead area of the forest to determine whether ORV use would be allowed.
