DANIEL COHN-BENDIT, an Internationale Situationniste reader, famous for being undesirable to the Gaullist regime, has written a book in collaboration with his brother, entitled: Obsolete Communism: the Leftwing Alternative.
It is true that brother Daniel has his moments of intelligence, but this is necessarily in contrast to the bureaucratic pigs in whose company he always appears.
It has been widely hailed as the best piece dealing with the May-June events yet published in English.

 revolt
Throughout the school year of 1968 Daniel Cohn-Bendit and his student followers disrupted the typical routines at the newly founded Université de Nanterre (an industrial suburb city of Paris on the Seine River) by throwing tomatoes at left-wing professors and overtaking the women's residence halls where men were not permitted to enter (Economist 5-2-98).
Bendit told Sartre that he felt French society was moving "toward a perpetual changeproduced by revolutionary actions at each stage." He held that such radical advances were only possible if economic crisis moved the "powerful workers movement and vigorous student activity" to converge together for their radical pursuits (Bourges 76+77).
Bendit said, "That is the bad solution." The second and "better solution" was to avoid immediate organization, or definition of a program, that Bendit felt would ultimately "paralyze" the movement (Bourges 79).

MIM Theory #8 - The Pitfalls of French Anarchism
Daniel Cohn-Bendit was a student leader and anarchist theorist in the 1968 French student-worker uprising, involving tens of thousands of students and the "largest general strike in French history"(1).
Insults about Cohn-Bendit's German citizenship were common, the PCF's newspaper deriding him as a "German anarchist." This led to the chant among students of "We are all German Jews." Richard Johnson, The French Communist Party versus the Students: Revolutionary Politics in May-June 1968, New Haven: Yale University Press, 1972, preface.
A key rallying point for the students was the distinction between the slogan of the French Communist Party (PCF): "Peace in Vietnam," and their own: "The FNL will win." Daniel Singer, Prelude to Revolution: France in May 1968, New York: Hill and Wang, 1970, p.

Observer Sixties hero revealed as kindergarten sex author
Daniel Cohn-Bendit, MEP for the French Greens, wrote about how flirtatious encounters in the early Seventies with children in his care as young as five had taken on 'erotic characteristics' and soon developed into more intimate contact from which he did not walk away.
When confronted last week with the article, which appeared in the August 1976 edition of the racy, now defunct cultural-political magazine das da, Cohn-Bendit said what he had written was 'unacceptable and unbearable'.
A respected Green MEP and leading figure of the Sixties protest movement has admitted to The Observer that he wrote an article claiming he had sexual contact with very young children.

Carlos also testified that the weapons used for the OPEC operation had been kept in an apartment in Frankfurt/Main, where Klein was then living with two other "red revolutionaries" of those days, Daniel Cohn-Bendit and Joschka Fischer.
But Schiller, who in the 1970s belonged to the RAF, remembers staying in 1973 at the Frankfurt apartment of "Herr Fischer and Daniel Cohn-Bendit," having breakfast with Fischer, and going on a pub crawl with him.
Joschka Fischer, who testified as a character witness at Klein's trial in 2001, refuted as "grotesque" the allegation that the arms used in the OPEC attack had been kept in the apartment he shared with Hans Joachim Klein and Daniel Cohn-Bendit (currently a member of the European Parliament).

Plenary: Democracy and Terrorism - International Summit on Democracy, Terrorism and Security
Another of the components, the green MEP, Daniel Cohn-Bendit, wanted to focus the debate in the context of democratic societies and expressed his concerns surrounding the paradox that “politicians are charged with the protection of its citizens, but at the same time this could lead to an erosion of individual liberties”.

The first thing I want to say is how refreshing it is to see Daniel getting all heated; in the last room a man stood up and said we all need to be more rational and less emotional, and I think if this debate gets any less emotional we'll all disappear into the dust.

The book by Daniel Cohn-Bendit, who was prominent in the student movement which led to the "May events" in France in 1968, and his brother Gabriel (who wrote the theoretical parts) is no exception.
While his brother Gabriel remained an anarchist, Daniel Cohn-Bendit eventually abandoned the claim to be a revolutionary to become an open reformist.
After 1968 Leninism, in the form of Trotskyism, Maoism, Castroism, Guevaraism, Ho Chi Minhism, flourished as never before and, although such views are now not as popular as they became in the 1970s, we are still suffering from this legacy.

Duncan Hallas: Towards a Revolutionary Socialist Party (1971)
Daniel Cohn-Bendit’s treatment of the matter in his book Obsolete Communism is instructive.
He sets out to show that “far from leading the Russian Revolution forwards, the Bolsheviks were responsible for holding back the struggle of the masses between February and October 1917, and later for turning the revolution into a bureaucratic counterrevolution – in both cases because of the party’s very nature, structure and ideology”.
The question is how and why Stalinism emerged and what role, if any, the structure of the Bolshevik party played in the process.

Thus, Daniel Cohn-Bendit, long-time leader of Frankfurt’s “office for multi-cultural affairs”, current European Union representative for the French Greens, and vehement advocate of a Black-Green coalition, immediately expressed his point of view to the Frankfurter Rundschau.
Daniel Cohn-Bendit expressed this most succinctly in a guest contribution to the Frankfurter Rundschau.
On April 28, he wrote: “There are ways of achieving things that are more easily effected with the Christian Democrats—namely, in those areas where the state regulatory measures of the Social Democrats are not functioning.”
