THE QUEBEC SKI AREAS ASSOCIATION :: HEADLINES
Daniel Gauthier, took advantage of a press briefing to report on the progress of work on the Master Plan designed to transform the existing ski resort into a year-round tourist destination.
Daniel Gauthier waxes philosophical by adding: ”We have devoted a lot of time to strategic deliberations and it’s clear that the initial timetable had to be revised.
Gauthier points out that all these projects must be submitted to a significant process of authorizations from both the Government and certain government agencies, with respect to the use of the territory on which Le Massif, the Ferme and the train operate.

Daniel J. Gauthier, Anne T. and Robert M. Bass Professor (secondary appt: Biomedical Engineering) and Chair
Gauthier is interested in a broad range of topics in the fields of nonlinear and quantum optics, biophysics, and nonlinear dynamical systems.
In the area of optical physics, his group is studying the fundamental characteristics of highly nonlinear light-matter interactions and is using this understanding to develop practical devices.

Log Cabin Chronicles Peter Black's Cirque and Massif column
Gauthier has turned his business acumen to a more, shall we say, lofty venture: the transformation of one of the most beautiful mountains in eastern Canada into a world class recreo-tourism destination.
Gauthier bought Le Massif from a relieved and delighted local development agency, complete with a ready-made ski hill infrastructure of lifts and chalets, plus a national alpine ski training centre just opened three years ago.
Gauthier pumped $5 million into upgrades this summer, including a high-speed quad lift, to ready the hill for what he expects to be a mounting influx of visitors.

Cirque du Soleil - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cirque du Soleil (French for "Circus of the Sun") is an entertainment empire based in Montréal, Quebec, Canada and founded in Quebec in 1984 by two former street performers, Guy Laliberté and Daniel Gauthier.
It was an answer to a call by Commissariat général aux célébrations 1534-1984 of the Quebec Government for the 450th anniversary celebration of the discovery of Canada by French explorer Jacques Cartier (b 1491-d 1557).
Gauthier, who left the company in 2001, now owns the ski area Le Massif, on the St. Lawrence River in Quebec.

Duke experiments validate relativity theory's light speed limit
To resolve the problem, the early 20th century scientists agreed to a "reformulation" of Einstein's theory by stipulating that it was the velocity of "information" carried on a light beam that cannot exceed that speed, wrote Gauthier, Stenner and Neifeld in their paper.
Gauthier's group followed up on an experiment published in 2000 in Nature that created a special kind of anomalous dispersion by beaming pulses from two lasers into a gas of atoms.
So Gauthier and Stenner set up their own two-laser experiment that made information speed much easier to distinguish by beaming each laser into a different vapor cell filled with potassium atoms.

These elements where they appear are strong, and I'm not suggesting that neither band could have been an influence, but it's clear from the majority of the music that Gauthier isn't trying to imitate any of these bands.
Much of Gauthier's material is of a spiritual nature (um, well, so was Yes', I suppose)...but most are written such that they also can have very secular meanings as well.
Bobo found fault with Gauthier's pronouncation of some words, but I'm not hearing it; yes, his English is, as mentioned, heavily accented, but this isn't something I personally found bothersome.

Because of the timbre and range--and because works such as the Debussy Rapsodie were originally written for alto sax--it's safe to assume that indeed, he's blowing an alto sax, but at least we're told it's manufactured by Selmer(!).
Gauthier is unquestionably a serious virtuoso player who's also a considerate, thoughtful musician--in other words, he's not just out to show off but really makes music out of this widely varied repertoire.
Overall, however, the saxophone is ideal for expressing the moods and flavors of these catchy, irresistible melodies, and Gauthier confidently commands the full range of his instrument, showing special flair in his brilliant upper-register notes.

PROGRESSIVEWORLD.NET: REVIEWS BY JOHN "BOBO" BOLLENBERG
In “Empty Space” it’s obvious that Daniel’s main language is French, as his English singing is thin and the accents wrongly placed.
Gauthier is mainly a bass player and this is neatly illustrated by really mixing the bass to the front, as happens throughout “Evening Of A New Romance,” even outplaying the acoustic guitar.
I think Gauthier should invest in a good sampler as some of his keyboard sounds really sound as if they come from a toy factory.

Researchers at UA and Duke University Investigate Information at the Speed of Light   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-22)
In this week's issue of "Nature" magazine, Mark A. Neifeld, a UA Electrical Engineering and Optical Sciences Professor, and Duke University physicists Michael D. Stenner and Daniel J. Gauthier present the experimental results that experimental physicists have sought and that confirm that Einstein does, in fact, continue to be right.
Their experiments show that information is indeed limited to speeds lower than C (Physicists use the letter "C" as a symbol for the speed of light in a vacuum.), and information that appears to travel faster is the result of reading too much into where information is carried on light pulses.
These observations allowed them to conclude that the information traveled at speeds slightly less than C. Stenner and Gauthier at Duke conducted the experimental part of the work and Neifeld designed the encoding system that allowed the researchers to add information to the optical signals.

By figuring out how to make light travel in a beam rather than a chaotic scatter, there were millions of potential uses for the laser, but it was a solution in search of a problem at the time, said Daniel Gauthier, a professor of physics at Duke University.
Focusing and concentrating the light is what allows a laser to cut metal, or your eye in the case of Lasik eye surgery.
Gauthier said it only takes 1 kilowatt, the power of 10 100-watt light bulbs, to cut metal.
