When Daniel Lavoie is asked how he got to act in a film in his first big part, he replied that quite simply, Claude Fournier offered him the part of Johnny the Rumanian immigrant who finds himself falling in love with Eva (Claire Bloom).
Daniel Lavoie points out that he was intimidated by the part because firstly, he had to play someone with a Rumanian accent (the film was made in English) and secondly, because he had to act with a truly great actress, Claire Bloom.
For Daniel Lavoie, who had followed his own line of work for 35 years, it was the first time that he had found himself in an area of work where he was not in control of the situation.

It’s a Daniel Lavoie, calm and feeling good, that I recently met up with at the studios of Radio Rock Détente, Montréal.
Without a new release for five years, an eternity in the world of pop music, Daniel Lavoie straightaway reclaimed his place at the top, which he has now occupied for 20 years in our musical world.
Daniel Lavoie, I imagine that this isn’t one of your favourite topics but you were subjected to a reversal of fortunes recently when it was published, everyone knew all about it.

Yes, I was inquiring about LAVOIE, not LANOIS (although both are great artists for different reasons).
Lavoie's 'Ils s'aiment, comme des enfants' is one of my all-time favourite recordings by anyone in any language...oddly enough first heard at a fashion parade deep in Central Russia in 1991 - took me ages to find out who on earth it was!
There, up head, right infront of Daniel Lanois, were our 2 seats.

These archives probably contain the most well-written comments on recent musical productions of newcomers as well as staple artists: Coma, Diane Dufresne, Daniel Lavoie, Musique Multi-Montréal (Festival), Roger Tabra and Nanette Workman, to name a few.
You can read about artists like the young Québécois-Haïtian songwriter Pascale Leblanc, La Bande Magnétik, Daniel Bélanger, and our beloved mature «pop diva» Ginette Reno.
