Daniel Owen's father was a miner in the Argoed pit and died tragically, as did two of his brothers in 1837 as a result of a flooding disaster at the mine.
Later in life, Daniel Owen entered the Bala Theological College, but was soon to return to look after and support his mother and younger brothers due to the departure of his older brother who was to be married.
Daniel Owen's characters are key elements in his novels, he often expresses his visions through his characters.

Daniel Owen's novels are no longer on the curriculum as they are believed to be to complex and there might be an element of truth in this.
Daniel Owen's main theme is hypocrisy within the community, as well as the difference between appearance and existence.
We had to take Daniel Owen's background into consideration - he lost his father in a tragic accident when he was young which left his mother in poverty.

Daniel was the only Welsh boy in the competition as his mother Helen said there were no clubs for deaf swimmers in south west Wales.
She said the main obstacle Daniel faced was in understanding his swimming coaches but that his interpreter from school attended many of his swimming sessions.

Daniel and Merle and I spent today with Jan (Daniel's friend) and Eugene (Jan's father) and their family at a "fun farm" an hour or so north-east of Toronto.
Owen stayed in as well, and he and Laura ate dinner and celebrated by themselves in his place downstairs.
Daniel (at 2 years, 3 months) takes all our time, which is probably as it should be, and life is fine.

My favorite name for a boy is Owen.  I know it's on your list, but there is another meaning that I would like to share with you.  In my baby name book it says that Owen means "Young Warrior", is Welsh and is a form of Evan.
Owen means "gracious gift of God" and I think that's what every child is. Daniel is after my dad; it means "judgement of God."
Owen is a Welsh name, which may possibly be a form of Eugene (Greek, meaning "well-born").
