Petrie's projects varied from My Name is Bill W., about the founder of Alcoholics Anonymous, to Mark Twain and Me, a film about poet Dorothy Quick's childhood friendship with an elderly Mark Twain, to a 1999 adaptation of the classic play Inherit the Wind, which starred George C. Scott in his final TV role.
