Daniel was born on the Island of St. Christopher (Saint Kitts) in the West Indies.
Roberdeau was active in establishing the Masons in Philadelphia, which brought him to the attention of Benjamin Franklin and other civic leaders.
Roberdeau knew that the enemy was aware of the lead production, and in one of his letters he stated, "We are now an object with the enemy." In 1780 he offered a bonus of $100 to a smelter who would finish the ore which was "on the ground," but to no avail.

 Daniel Roberdeau
He was the son of Isaac Roberdeau, a French Huguenot, and Mary Cunyngham, a descendant of the Earl of Glencairn, in Scotland.
In February, 1777, Gem Roberdeau was elected a member of the Continental congress, tie was active in supporting the Articles of Confederation and affixed his name to that document on the part of Pennsylvania.
In April, 1778, there being a scarcity of lead in the army, General Roberdeau received leave of absence from congress in order to work a lead-mine in Bedford county, where he was obliged to erect a stockade fort as a protection against the Indians.

Isaac Roberdeau died at St. Christopher, and his widow and children removed to Philadelphia while the children were still in their minority, where the widow married a man by the name of Keighly, but was again a widow many years prior to her death, which occurred March 13, 1771.
Daniel had several sons, of whom John, born April 9, 1745, was a member of congress from Chester county 1807-8 and was succeeded by his son Daniel; Daniel, a representative in congress from Montgomery county, 1789-97, and from Maryland 1801-5; Gabriel, for thirty years a member of the state legislature from Berks county; and William.
Daniel Hiester, the elder, was born in the town of Elsoff, county of Witgenstein, province of Westphalia, in Silesia, Germany, January 1, 1713, and died in Bern township, Berks county, Pennsylvania, June 7, 1795.

Fort Roberdeau was a stockaded structure, apparently the only one in the present-day Blair County region to have been authorized by the Pennsylvania Assembly, built expressly for the security and protection of the men engaged in mining the lead that was abundant in the Sinking Spring Valley.
Fort Roberdeau is the only one of the six fortified structures known to have been constructed within the limits of present-day Blair County during the American Revolutionary War to be reconstructed.
The Fort Roberdeau Restoration Committee was established by the Blair County Commissioners, and the fort became a Bicentennial Project, dedicated on 05 July, 1976.

In the spring of 1778, General Daniel Roberdeau set out from Carlisle to mine lead ore in Sinking Valley, located in the northern corner of Bedford County.

His father was a French Hugonot that settled in the caribbean islands until his death and then Daniel came with his mother to the US.
Putting 2&2 together I'm wondering...Hannah born 1766, old enough to be Daniel's sister and her birth place is unknown...Roberdeaus and VanLeers were both were prestigious Phila./NJ families.
Daniel is listed as a resource in her family pedigree file as well as a Robert F. Price who is also listed on the calendar of NJ wills with Hannah & Jacob Roberts.
